Imagine if the broadcast was on Saturday at 9.00am while you and your family are having breakfast. To all those saying you need to choose mats, Imagine you are in a morning queue with over 100 people and mats are checking in every 20 or 30 minutes. Will you still be choosy? Regardless of whether one likes or dislikes the station, we all have to admit that, based on the content aired by the show, its timing is inappropriate for certain age groups. Either what we hold to be morally upright and appropriate is morally upright and appropriate to all adults and kids alike or we are just another simple minded society obsessed with sex and matters of the flesh, opting for cheap and low quality entertainment rather than tackle important issues to better our lives. I do not have to wake up every day to be subjected to sex discussions shoved down my throat by some halfwitted driver. Some of us do not have much of a choice on the matatus we board. It is ironical....the parents are the ones calling. So long as you have a choice there is nothing you can do. You have a choice in the stations,You have a choice in the mode of transport (you can take a city hopper or boda boda),you have a choice to alight before the mat starts the journey and even alight after the mat starts the journey.If you dont exercise these choices then you have accepted to listen to classic. I refuse to agree with you McD - coz the freedom of speech as much as it is a fundamental right should never infringe on someone else's freedom - Talking about Waumini & Ghetto radio - its clearly not infringing on someone's right to associate with, a matatu to board, but Classic and team are clearly disturbing some masses. I also disagree with Mc Donald. Some of us do not have a choice. For example, on my route (105/30) there are many matatus, City Hoppas, City Shuttles, Metro Shuttles e.t.c. and it's like Maina and Company have signed a contract with the matatus and their Saccos to always air their show in the morning. If you wait for one that doesn't air that show you might have to get to work very late. We can talk about marriages being a sham but the truth is there are some marriages which are actually working, and there are people who do not conform to the gender, tribal and racial stereotypes being glorified in that show. If all that people hear are how pathetic Kenyan men are, or that Nairobi women are all after money ( and the people who hear this include the children boarding the matatus in the morning) won't our society degenerate even further? There are even racier shows and nobody is complaining about them because they are not aired in the morning, in a lot of PSVs and other public places. If the show is as popular as the proponents claim it is, it will still generate a lot of revenue if it's aired after hours. Those who get entertained by it and those who want to call in to receive "help" will continue doing so. We want freedom but freedom comes with responsibility, and there's nothing like total freedom because total freedom to one person might be violation of freedom of another person, that's why things like Censorship boards and Regulatory Boards exist. We can talk about marriages being a sham but the truth is there are some marriages which are actually working, and there are people who do not conform to the gender, tribal and racial stereotypes being glorified in that show. If all that people hear are how pathetic Kenyan men are, or that Nairobi women are all after money ( and the people who hear this include the children boarding the matatus in the morning) won't our society degenerate even further?

There are even racier shows and nobody is complaining about them because they are not aired in the morning, in a lot of PSVs and other public places. If the show is as popular as the proponents claim it is, it will still generate a lot of revenue if it's aired after hours. Those who get entertained by it and those who want to call in to receive "help" will continue doing so.

We want freedom but freedom comes with responsibility, and there's nothing like total freedom because total freedom to one person might be violation of freedom of another person, that's why things like Censorship boards and Regulatory Boards exist.

From the few lessons I have had in law....I can tell you,even if you have a petition you will have to prove that your fundamental right was infringed upon and even if you succeed you will have to prove that you did not completely have a choice and that you suffered more than anyone else who listens to classic and lastly you will have to prove that you are an authority in moral issues.A long legal shot in a moving target.

I tell you today if you held a yes vs no vote against classic you will be shocked that the yes will win. What surprises me is that the callers and the contributors cut a cross the whole spectrum of the society men,women (of all ages),religious,stay home mums,working class,the wealthy...etc a lot of people listen to classic and a lot of corporates advertise expensively at that time,what about their rights? The best way would be the corporates to stop advertising and send a moral message to the stations (these corporates are headed by who again? the men and women of high moral standing...pls give me a break)........... In my opinion there is a gap in our society which Classic is exploiting,whether they have the authority or professionalism to do it is another debate.People are suffering in their relationship and they need someone to talk to,they cannot talk to the pastor (bcz the pastors are not as holy as we think,they can not talk to their friends because your best friend is the one slicing you etc) so they get solace from the fact that they are not the only one suffering,the calling is therapeutic and goes along way to heal them emotionally. I also find it to be informative,i need to know as much as there are good marriages that work,there are also a lot of pretense,and hypocrisy and schemers in marriage ( I need to know the truth as it is),and we are all ventilating because deep down we know its true. I agree with Grace that this discussion could be stepped up a notch. On the other hand, after signing the petition, I found a new train of thought. Allow me to equate this scenario to a young and boisterous fun filled church (Kindly indulge my christian analogy.) Such a church preaches to the masses and reaches the populace and the youth in ways a more traditional church would not. After a while in such a church, one tends to need and may seek deeper spiritual maturity, and the eventual result is a larger flock for the more traditional church. A lot of funding goes towards social projects in Kenya, but the means of outreach have been the same old beaten path of billboards, TV adverts, and radio shows, in structures and formats that are unpalatable. Classic has unearthed social issues that we as a people have dug deep and kept mum about. Let them keep doing it. Were the NGO's and counselors to work with them consistently and constantly behind the scenes like a pastor guiding the masses to deeper maturity, a lot of the social dev projects would have a greater semblance of success. In my opinion there is a gap in our society which Classic is exploiting,whether they have the authority or professionalism to do it is another debate.People are suffering in their relationship and they need someone to talk to,they cannot talk to the pastor (bcz the pastors are not as holy as we think,they can not talk to their friends because your best friend is the one slicing you etc) so they get solace from the fact that they are not the only one suffering,the calling is therapeutic and goes along way to heal them emotionally.

On the other hand, after signing the petition, I found a new train of thought.

Allow me to equate this scenario to a young and boisterous fun filled church (Kindly indulge my christian analogy.) Such a church preaches to the masses and reaches the populace and the youth in ways a more traditional church would not. After a while in such a church, one tends to need and may seek deeper spiritual maturity, and the eventual result is a larger flock for the more traditional church.

A lot of funding goes towards social projects in Kenya, but the means of outreach have been the same old beaten path of billboards, TV adverts, and radio shows, in structures and formats that are unpalatable.

Classic has unearthed social issues that we as a people have dug deep and kept mum about. Let them keep doing it. Were the NGO's and counselors to work with them consistently and constantly behind the scenes like a pastor guiding the masses to deeper maturity, a lot of the social dev projects would have a greater semblance of success.

This video is related, a TED Talk about Selling Condoms in The Congo, where aid agencies have flooded the country with free and cheap condoms, but few people are using them. It tries to answer why, in that the mode of marketing or selling the solution does not appeal to the target audience.

In my opinion there is a gap in our society which Classic is exploiting,whether they have the authority or professionalism to do it is another debate.People are suffering in their relationship and they need someone to talk to,they cannot talk to the pastor (bcz the pastors are not as holy as we think,they can not talk to their friends because your best friend is the one slicing you etc) so they get solace from the fact that they are not the only one suffering,the calling is therapeutic and goes along way to heal them emotionally.

I also find it to be informative,i need to know as much as there are good marriages that work,there are also a lot of pretense,and hypocrisy and schemers in marriage ( I need to kn

My advice wake up and smell the coffee its a new world order.....and I can bet my entire earthly belongings that Classic is here to stay and most of the people complaining are listeners as well in the morning.
