Gentlemen, a while ago (like 2009) someone in the govt got pissed of by the same issues you are addressing here and the station went off-air for some days. When it came back the topics were more relaxed as they even told the listeners of the situation. sooner than later, they slept back to the topics you are now talking about.   i think the ministry of IT/ICT (or whatever its called) is aware of this but i don't know where they stand. like oil companies, its hard to kill a 'cash cow'

It is ironical....the parents are the ones calling.

McD, do you have proof that "the parents are the ones calling"??

So long as you have a choice there is nothing you can do.

You are suggesting that Kenyans who mind the crap in the show have other choices and should opt for them and do nothing about Classic FM, right?? Just like someone here said "just shift channels"...hmmmm

You have a choice in the stations,You have a choice in the mode of transport (you can take a city hopper or boda boda),you have a choice to alight before the mat starts the journey and even alight after the mat starts the journey. If you dont exercise these choices then you have accepted to listen to classic.

McD, for once, I have seen you reason so shallowly that I stopped for a moment to ask myself if you are the same Joseph McDonald that I know. How can you say that? For instance, you believe the kids going to school in the matatus should pose to ask the operators (driver/conductor) whether they are tunes to Classic FM and then decline to board that particular ma-three for another one?
You've forgotten who we are trying to protect here - it's mostly the minors. If I were the one in the matatu, I promise you I have the guts to make the driver change station. I cannot just alight. I cannot just do nothing about it. Please try and get a different and better attitude towards this debate.

The fact of the matter is that most marriages are a sham, morality in Kenya is at its lowest (so I cant buy that moral theory) ...dont kill the messenger...(In fact Kenyans are more tribal than religious) what classic is doing is offering a platform. They dont hold a gun on any one either to call or listen or advertise. Its called freedom of expression.

You have narrowed down on the marriage angle. The show is never about marriage alone and our  petition is not just about marriage.
For your information, our problem is not about the issues being discussed in the show. It's more about the timing of the show and the audience which it inadvertently reaches - the minors.

Today if we stop Classic, tomorrow what will stop somebody  from saying
a) Waumini FM is indoctrinating our kids with catholic teachings
b) Or Ghetto FM is making our kids fail in Kiswahili because inaleta  brrrrrrcha

c) or Hope FM is only Christian what about the muslim or hindu etc
d) or lets demolish K-street because there is a lot of immorality going on there.
d) or petition women not to wear mini skirts because its "immoral".....we will be sliding back to stone age

McD, please try and stay within the topic and stop your deflections. When it comes to other stations, it will be dealt with at that time. That does not mean I am not thinking out of the box! What we are asking ourselves, rather saying, is that is it proper for Classic to discuss lurid sex details in the morning when even kids are listening?

For the last 5+ years every morning some one calls in and 20 others follow with a similar problem, what does that tell you?

It does not tell anything. I don't see how discussing such issues on the airwaves helps to address the problem back where it is. Do you? Have you heard if ever, Maina gave the callers a solution? Did you hear of any caller who called back to thank Classic FM for having solved their issue?

My advice wake up and smell the coffee its a new world order.....and I can bet my  entire earthly belongings that Classic is here to stay and most of the people complaining are listeners as well in the morning.

So how did your contribution help in addressing the problem? By telling Kenyans to live with it?? I think this will hit you once your kids get to that age when they can confront you with such topics. If the content of Maina's show is that acceptable, I can say we have no business having bodies/commissions to regulate content.
