Karen is crappy, the 3G here is very wanting. And they are still "working on it". Nkt

I use an N72 which does not have 3g, has EDGE, in various places around Nai and on Safcom, I do admit that I have not stepped in a cyber in like 5 months. Here is a kicker though, using YU, much as their network signal can drop unannounced, I cant even price their data, as for a credit of 100KSh, I surf for 2 days, transffering upwards of 40MB-50MB of data. That means an MB is less than 3 bob! Have been on this for the last 2 months hivi. But by telling y'all this, I bet it wont be long before 'sanity' is restored in their billing.

@odhiambo talking about charges per MB if you get 1000ksh airtime and activate to get 300mb we are chrged 3ksh/mb i could be wrong but thats my belief. On Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 1:30 PM, Ken Simiyu <kensimiyu@gmail.com> wrote:

after banning safcom completely, I settled on Orange and Yu prepaid. grps is gprs, so i never had much expectations. The new bundle by Orange i.e kshs 2000/- for 2GigaByte is really cool. I had to delete all settings on my 2 pcs 3g routers to setup Orange. BTW, I hear safcom are now blocking port 25 but its unconfirmed.

Aki, Is it GigaByte or GigaBit? If Safcom's is blocking port 25, it could be because some of their IPs are getting blacklisted http://www.spamcop.net/w3m?action=blcheck&ip=196.201.208.129 aki wrote:

To create a vacancy in Safcom, spammers can start relaying mail through the new gateway. Safcom will then need to employ someone to be de-registering their public ip addresses from the black-listed spammers sites. How about that? -- J. N. Kimani 2009/4/27 Allan Kapten <allankapten09@gmail.com>

Not entirely true, unless their new gateway is an Open Relay! Then Safaricom comes for your neck! I am sure they can trace the spamming IP address to the SIM Card and get you....they can block it. Even if you are using a prepaid SIM card.....if I was their sysadmin, I can play this game with you till you are broke:-) It's pretty easy to control any spamming server though...several tricks at throttling your connection and even "suffocating" your server to an extent it runs out of resources - yes, the spamming server - you pump into the SMTP engine mail that does not go out, thereby DDoS-ing your own server. James, Am sure we have good SFC people on the list and have taken note of your suggestion.... On Mon, May 4, 2009 at 3:44 PM, J. N. Kimani <ngugikimani@gmail.com> wrote:

How about that?

A friend who uses outlook could not send emails ( on port 25 ) with his domain provider in uk. He has been using safcom and sending emails without any problems right until last week. His gmail works fine on 465. I let him test with my Orange connection, he could send emails with no problems.

I have settled for Orange. EDGE 2K for 2G is cool and the speeds are excellent. I ges they have a stable network Steve wrote:
@odhiambo talking about charges per MB if you get 1000ksh airtime and activate to get 300mb we are chrged 3ksh/mb i could be wrong but thats my belief. _______________________________________________ Skunkworks mailing list Skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks Other services @ http://my.co.ke Other lists ------------- Skunkworks announce: http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks-announce Science - http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/science kazi - http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/admin/kazi/general
