That E1150 looks a little bit advanced; I dont know if they applied the same random number generators to create unlocks, but here goes: IMEI | 352965048533721 Unlock | 61573585 Flash | 39139426 w/r snn

yeah Ndungu, E1550 uses the same algorithm tables. Chinese dont like re-investment in new algorithms for newer models On 18 September 2010 13:27, ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com> wrote:

I guess they just did it to keep the operators happy (for a while:) - but then again they sold the exact same thing to all other operators in the world... And now the floodgates are open - so why bother genarating new code that will just be re-broken... I guess Apple has given up with the jailbreakers; they even tried to file an international lawsuit to all jailbreakers. It does seem the jailbreakers are now giving or selling software, robbing the almighty Apple Store of revenues :) Sent from my iPhone On Sep 18, 2010, at 10:16 PM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

Why dont you get a universal modem that will accept any local or international GSM and never worry again about unlocking. BTW one user told me that unlocking works for a limited time. On 18 September 2010 07:20, David Mugo <raidarmax@gmail.com> wrote:

Unlocking works for a limited time? That's a new one! Did the user tell you what duration it is? 1, 2....N months? -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

I dont understand the logic behind "limited time". If the USB token accepts the unlock code, then its unlocked - because I think its based on ROM. I think the solution on the forum is to convert what you have to a Universal. :)

I have talked to two users who say that they have noticed a degradation on the speed sometime after unlocking the modem. For example Safcom which is normally 7.2mbps goes down to 3.6mbps. They say it even becomes worse on Zain and Orange (Since their network speed is usually limited). Guess you can consider this information before making any decision on your internet needs. E160 only does 3.6, not 7.2, which I believe iss for the E220. Which model they are talking about? Proof? Martin, its not possible. We once tried to trap IMEIs of phones and put them in a database or excel sheet for some targeted adverts... It was too much of a hussle to separate the whos and whos nots... and special hardware and software is needed for this; conventional GSN equipment dont just trap these things. Besides, depending on the location, some devices were not even sending their IMEIs. And the work that goes behind separating all devices inorder to give them different quality of services is a full time job; because first you have to know which IMEI belongs to which device, is it Nokia, iPhone or the Token. Then you have to ask yourself, which ones were bought by Zain or Safcom from Huawei? Which ones were sold in Kenya ? And new devices or phones are being bought and registered with IMEIs everyday; so you need a global database update to map these things. I hope you see my point.

martin chege, the information you have is incorrect and not technically feasible. To prove it, please invite skunks to the iHub, show them a once unlocked locked modem, and also show them the reduced speeds. We hear a lot of things, but few of us see them. I have not had any such complaints myself yet I know many people who have unlocked. We unlock to save costs, why buy unlocked for more than tha Kshs. 2000 standard price for a modem. As for Zain speeds....

@ Martin My point are two, mabbe i wasnt very clear: 1) My first point says that the unlock is ROM based, thus has nothing to do with outside control (earlier email). 2) My second long explanation says that even if the mobile operator tried to screw up your bandwidth, or lock the modem, the amount of work would not be worth the trouble (I went through the process of trying to isolate modem IMEIs within the network) I hope this makes things clearer now; I unlocked my modem in January/February, and when the network is good, I enjoy good speeds, when its bad,,, well... w/r

@ Dennis, from the basics. when you unlock, you just introducing a software that makes the modem universal. Once you buy a universal modem, its hardware is already to accept any SIM card. No additional software required. From my early learning, I was told hardware-based processes perform better than software-based processes. Now i've given you a technical operation and a user perspective. Maybe in the skunkwork meeting you can try to explore this school of thinking instead of continuing to insist on a product that does not give you a real value. Martin, unlocking introduces a code, not a software. The modem is programmed to work in a certain network if a certain value in its memory reads something and another is blank, and work in all networks if the second value reads 'X' which is the unlock code. So ama not sure where software gets in and how the limitations are applied. Please try unlocking one rather than 'hearing things'

What do you mean by "the problem with the E220 is trying to get the unlock code into the modem," ? If you put the wrong simcard (simcard of another network); the E220 doesnt prompt you for an unlock code with a pop-up which you just input ? @ David we tried; but skunkworks does not allow "attachments"... beyond 200KB... But guys can google and try and download "Arvie Unlocker 1.0" etc However, using the word "download" will show you a lot of crap from sites that trap your search string and add "download" on automatically generated web pages filled with fishy executables bearing the same name as your search. @Martin I guess yours is a case of the 'unfortunate' where Huawei is getting cleverer and one can only unlock it in the EEPROM (previous discussion on skunkworks) - a more complicated method. What is supposed to happen is,, you put wrong Simcard, it asks you for unlock code,, and you put in the code.. Ask "dennis kioko" for more tips... you will have to look in the forums. The problem, as you have pointed out, is that here is little time to seive out the info u need from all the commercial hogwash presented to you by Google. So, you have to use better keywords and look out for forums and blogs. Unluckily, I do not have the time I used to in campus to find relevant result...
