Business must be brisk, (judging from the number of active connections on your network)*,* security too must be high in your agenda given the paranoid nature of enforcement on our gateway 10.199.0.1 which has basically blocked all the "bad" ports. Just a reminder to open the "somehow good" ports that allow us to send small packets out there to tell us where websites are since you (10.199.0.1) seem overwhelmed. You have only left port 443 and 80 open, which is fine but since most "bad" users of the net can program their softwares to use the "good" ports, we are now having congestion and WE the good users are locked out of accessing the interweb because our machines are not powerful enough to compete on that small port. Hi Brainiac, Not denying you the right to air your grievances in any way but wouldn't it have been a more objective approach to raise such an issue in such an elaborate way with the provider - KDN prior to raising it in an open forum whilst still targeting the very entity? Nonetheless, this issue has been taken note of after getting an official correspondence from one David Njuguna. We will certainly fix this in due time. Rgds, Dan O.Kwach, Kenya Data Networks. @Dan Kwach ... You Joketh my broda. The reason Brainiac is doing this on the open forum is because ..... THERE IS NO INTELLIGENT RESPONSE from your KDN... He has even pre-answered the same questions he is always asked when he calls and his problem not resolved. I assure you and I hope Brainiac agrees with me ... that if you were responsive to his concerns he would be very happy to deal directly with you. Just FYI ... I am a customer that left your 'esteemed' organisation because not only was the customer care/response bogus ... every time a guy was sent to see whats wrong it was a different guy with absolutely no idea what the previous discussion was and then he would 'need to consult' and never came back. Finally after several months of waiting for my Fibre connectivity I just gave up and went to the competitor Maybe they should make you head of customer care coz you seem to be the only one concerned ... or better still ... BRING BACK KAI WULFF and solidify the notion that Kenyans need expatriates to run things for anything to work Therein ends my RANT Yawa Mwana Neke On Thu, Aug 12, 2010 at 7:55 PM, Dan Kwach <dan.kwach@kdn.co.ke> wrote:

Dan Kwach, Instead of trying to manage the situation, why don't you use skunkworks as a barometer of how your services are performing. I don't know anyone including KDN staff (I was one) who is satisfied with the quality of services. KDN operates as an overgrown ISP and not a Telco, which is driven by systems, processes, procedures and overriding desire to please their customers. Can you please address the issues straight on: KDN NEEDS TO SHAPE UP and Match the quality of service to a name. Whichever way you look at it, the ball is squarely on your court. Kiania D. Dear Dan, I agree with you 1001%, i acted out of frustration and i can assure you that whenever i have a problem with the internet connection, i do the following: 1: call david and find out if he is connected because we share the same node. 2: check the nanostation at my office to see if it is connected because it is on a different node but i can ssh into it. 3: call kdn if none of these is working. Now why i sent to the list: I called, spoke to one guy called Ian who in my opinion is one of the better customer care reps cause he knows what he is doing. He called back to find out if it was working, told him he had resolved some issues and i could ping the gateway but speeds were zero. said he would call back and that was the last i heard from them. you tell me, *last time i had an issue with KDN and i made noise on skunkworks i was sorted within the day, why wouldnt i have that as my option of last resort? * ps: with all due respect. I normally dont comment but this time, I've to: @Dan Kwatch, if there's any ISP that should be ideally dead, its KDN! YES, I know it employs people n such and at one time, I even sought employment there. Tell me why I should email your support address only to receive the autoresponse several times in a day. When I call to enquire why my query has not been answered, you 'eat' into over 30 minutes of my airtime then ask what email address I used just to send an auto-response for another whole WEEK!! @Dan, KDN is not as responsive to customer needs as you'd want to think. Maybe internally the techies have created an illusion that they do, but on the ground we are quite frustrated and this forum then becomes a better avenue to share out the frustrations - with the hope that KDN will change. Apparently KDN has put in place a nice bureaucratic escalation procedure, which they want people to follow. It's quite useless to put up such bureaucracy in service delivery. Another thing I find funny (and I have talked about this before) KDN uses Mailman for certain aspects of client communications. When things get tough, they CC the client and this Mailman system. When the client responds by "reply to all" the mailman (obviously) rejects the response from the client. I once offered to setup Request Tracket <http://bestpractical.com/rt> for KDN but no one took the offer. IMHO, you guys just need a properly configured RT[0] to manage client issues. I also think KDN has enough money to pay for commercial setup/support for RT from http://bestpractical.com. This way, you'll eliminate the need for Mailman and the bureaucratic escalation procedure as RT will make the whole process transparent to customers and everyone in the organization who is concerned with such processes. [0] http://bestpractical.com/rt - There are even commercial apps for doing the same, but RT is FREE if you can setup and program it. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

In all fairness Dan is part of the solution, he listens to the client and responds to the client unlike some people in support who pretend to listen to the client and then act in a way to suggest either A. They do not have the most basic training on Networking or B. They do not think the client knows what they are reporting. @Dan, keep up the good work! I second Davy. Dan is definately part of the solution, Dan and Rita @tkl, no one puts themselves on the firing line if they are not dedicated. On Tue, Aug 17, 2010 at 1:45 PM, David Njuguna <dnjuguna@gmail.com> wrote:
In all fairness Dan is part of the solution, he listens to the client and responds to the client unlike some people in support who pretend to listen to the client and then act in a way to suggest either A. They do not have the most basic training on Networking or B. They do not think the client knows what they are reporting.
@Dan, keep up the good work!

@Dan, please do apologize to Brainiac on behalf of KDN... I left KDN because of the same customer service issues (to Orange by the way). The customer service system is so bad that even after refunding my deposit, they have never collected(oops)... their nano station and the wireless router that came along with it.
No pun intended bro.

Hi Brainiac,
Not denying you the right to air your grievances in any way but wouldn't it have been a more objective approach to raise such an issue in such an elaborate way with the provider - KDN prior to raising it in an open forum whilst still targeting the very entity?

I hate to be in their shoes right now but its not only a KDN issue not collecting equipment after refunds. I also have a motorola canopy and a ups not collected almost an year after refund. Am actually considering charging them storing cost if they ever come to collect them.

Guys, Are you kidding me, have you tried to call the 5 Million Number... *Sorry* !! if you are calling from a cell phone.. The only benefit you get is listening to a non ending IVR which doesn't solve your problems. I wish they could make good use of the IVR. e,g. Welcome to KDN To ping press one To resolve your address press 2 to access your gateway press 3 or something , may be this would reduce the frustrations. But i know by now, get a techies cell phone and create a rapport with them and you will always be sorted in zero time - this is not what it is supposed to be !!!!!!!. Olie...
