I was just wondering, once you buy a data bundle on airtel and it expires, is it possible to revive it as is the case with Safaricom? The reason I'm asking this is because I've purchased 2GB of data twice and every time it expires, it doesn't get reactivated when I reload again. All the expired bundles just disappears into thin air. -- Solomon Kariri, Software Developer, Cell: +254736 729 450 Skype: solomonkariri

When did bundles on Airtel start expiring

Just dial *180# and follow the mb data bundle menu items until you hit the check bundle balance. It will show you your balance and the expiry date. It makes me wonder. They usually give it quite a short time taking into consideration the fact that you are using edge, it might actually not be practically possible to exploit all the bundle within the given time even if you are browsing on your time all the time. Are you sure? Its really weird, this is what I get when I follow the following steps dial *180# *Welcome to Airtel Menu.* *Reply with:* *1 for Prepaid Data Bundles* *2 for Unlimited data* *3 for Prepaid Blackberry* *4 Bizna* Then I reply with 1 and get the following *1. MB Bundles* *2. Unlimited Bundles* *3. BlackBerry* *4. Internet Settings* *5. Disable Automatic Renewal* The I reaply with 1 and get the following message *Please Select* *1. to select data bundle* *2. to Check bundle status* *3. to disable automatic renewal* Then I get the following after replying with 2 *Your Prepaid Data Bundle * *Balance is 0.0 MB and the * *expiry date is 2011-06-01 airtel* I wonder if your behaves the same way for this exact sequence of steps. It has been really weird with me for airtel. There was a time I received a call from the airtel adverts sms number and when I picked the call, nobody talked, then it hang up. It was then that it hit me that number was actually the airtel adverts message number. I don know how this stuff happens. On Fri, May 27, 2011 at 9:04 PM, Brian Ngure <brian@pixie.co.ke> wrote:

I called airtel customer care and asked them. According to the information given me, once your bundle expires, there is no way to re-activate it, not even with a top-up. The info I got was that 10mb, 25mb (and the 50mb they dont know they have) have a 'lifespan' of one month while the other bundles have a 'shelf-life' of two months. I hope they sort that out soon (re-activation of expired bundles) otherwise that's what we have to work with. -- _____________________________________________________________________________ This is your last chance. Now you understand why, even after you take Safaricom to court, I will still be hesitant to switching over to another network. I do not understand how a product that is not an offer will one day, out of the blues change in its terms of service. It's already bad that Airtel are notorious for waking up and changing their tariffs and other products. In short, I do not trust Airtel, they will change their products to suit them, the customer is just a means to an end, he can go jump off a cliff. If I bought a bundle and it was never to expire, why should it get an expiry later on. at least wait I finish using the bundle, then on the next one tell me that it will expire. And goodness gracious, get 3G , don't expect me to buy a 3G phone and hang out on a crawling EDGE network.

Actually, its even worse. Its the worst I know of, I loaded 100 mb yesterday and they gave me an expiry date of 2011-06-06. That's a week of validity. And its the mb bundle, NOT the unlimited one. @Bernard, expiry is not the issue, inability to reactivate an expired bundle is the big issue. They want to dictate even your rate of data consumption. On Tue, May 31, 2011 at 1:18 PM, Bernard Mwagiru <bmwagiru@gmail.com> wrote:

Now thats bad....very bad...if they cant reactivate expired bundles, the best they can do is simply extend the validity..but even that will present a slight problem. ./bernard On Tue, May 31, 2011 at 1:23 PM, solomon kariri <solomonkariri@gmail.com>wrote:

And where is the consumer protection champion? I think he should take over this case as well! Or...

First of all I don't think any telco is here to help any consumer, least of all those that are foreign owned. #operationprofit secondly, these issues with Airtel have been with them when they were called Celtel then Zain then now Airtel. Nothing much seems to change. . . still pushing seemingly pointless terms and condition's down consumers throats even with widespread protest.
