Hi Guys, I had an accident over the weekend and I'm looking for a good garage to take my car to for repair. Hopefully one that is not too expensive. Damage is on the passenger side, wing, door, window, windscreen. Anyone know a good place? -- Regards Brian Ngure

Looks like to total cost of the parts & labor might exceed KES 20k. In such cases, I pay EXCESS and ask Insurance to fix my car! You need to have comprehensive insurance policy for this though. Only when the total cost of everything is way below 20k do I take my car to the garage. On Thu, Nov 29, 2012 at 9:31 AM, Brian Ngure <brian@pixie.co.ke> wrote:

+1. Just the windscreen will set you back at least 16-24k. If you have comprehensive insurance, use it and have your wing + door replaced as well, rather than repaired. You lose out on the no-claim discount on your renewal but your car ends up as good as accident-free. BR, S

So assuming I go the insurance route, which garage does quality work at an affordable price (otherwise the insurance company will complain)? On Thu, Nov 29, 2012 at 2:13 PM, Steve Muchai <smuchai@gmail.com> wrote:

I think each insurance have their list of preferred mechanics/garages. Haven't heard of an insurance complaining of costs (If the price too high they will/or should write-off the car!). (or may be this depends on which insurance company). If your premiums are up to date and the car valued accurately they should fix it with ease whatever the cost. /K KT, M: +254 722 28 98 04 www.mondeas.com “When you are busy making excuses, you are not making money, making friends, or making the world a better place. Each insurer has a list of garages to refer you to. BR, S

Actually, they will give you a list of approved garages to choose from but that is NOT what matters. Whenever I take for such, I have to agree with the Insurance what the work encompasses - almost to the last detail. So when I take the car to _any_ of their garages, I know exactly what needs to be done - even if it means pulling out a panel and replacing it, etc. When I go to pick the car, it must meet those specifications we agreed on with the Insurer, otherwise I don't take the car until it's done, and I'll be breathing fire on any unnecessary delays because the Insurer is NOT doing me a favor:-) On Thu, Nov 29, 2012 at 2:50 PM, Brian Ngure <brian@pixie.co.ke> wrote:

You are NOT cirius :-) I also must ask if that is an Insurance company or a broker? I use Chartis (sorry, it's again called AIG now) and my agent will always tell me which garage to take to, and I never really care because I know what needs to be done on the vehicle and make sure it's done. Sasa huyu wako amenishtua.... It's one Insurance company that must be avoided at all cost! Anyway, there is Joginder's Garage in Industrial Area. I am sure you can find it. I used it very recently and they did good work, not exactly excellent though, but that could be because of certain factors... like they did not paint the whole car, so I can see a difference between the existing paint and the new paint job:) On Thu, Nov 29, 2012 at 4:53 PM, Brian Ngure <brian@pixie.co.ke> wrote:

+1. Just the windscreen will set you back at least 16-24k. If you have comprehensive insurance, use it and have your wing + door replaced as well, rather than repaired.
You lose out on the no-claim discount on your renewal but your car ends up as good as accident-free.

I also must ask if that is an Insurance company or a broker? I use Chartis (sorry, it's again called AIG now) and my agent will always tell me which garage to take to, and I never really care because I know what needs to be done on the vehicle and make sure it's done. Anyway, there is Joginder's Garage in Industrial Area. I am sure you can find it. I used it very recently and they did good work, not exactly excellent though, but that could be because of certain factors... like they did not paint the whole car, so I can see a difference between the existing paint and the new paint job:)

There is a place in Industrial Area called 'Top Job' where accident cars go in and come out looking quite good. The paint job is quite superb too.
