LEGALISING MICROSOFT LICENCES WINDOWS/OFFICE
Hello guys, Just to ask ,for example if i have 50 machine which are installed with windows 7 and i want to legalise both window/office and upgrade to windows 10 n office 2016..am getting alot of stories, some guys are very expensive other cheaper.can i get a volume licence of windows pro and at how much? can i buy an upgrade and still use it to upgrade my licence..am told its impossible?

I doubt whether the upgrade to Windows 10 protects you from M$ if they want to pin you down. When they come knocking, you MUST have the requistite licences on paper (or sticker) I believe. The question was he needs to legalize and finding it expensive. Office 365 is a cheaper route if there isn't any other none browser based application that he had to run in the enterprise. I would go for Office 360 you get a bang whole lot more , as for legalizing your OS best get Volume licenses since they can be transferred if the machines fail , please note if your machine came with windows 7 you cant install windows 8 claiming to have a windows license. I would advise against going open source especially if you need to do alot of automation and macro coding your cost for hiring an open source consultant VS getting free advise from admins in forums or just google for windows scripts will bbe high and alos hiring an open source expert to manage and maintain these too . At the moment you can get Windows 10 with downgrade options to Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 and this allows you to legalize your windows 7 and when you are ready to upgrade to win 10 you will still be compliant. The main challenge in Africa is the cost of the license vis-à-vis the income. Asking an American to part with 37,000sh (370USD) <https://textbookcentre.com/computers-electronics/software/ms-office-2013-professional> and they make 20 USD per hour easier than asking a Kenyan making 37,000 sh monthly. I have come across one company owned by an American and he always insists on valid software but others don't care or the price forces them to install the pirated software. I run a valid windows 8 then 10 just because my Laptop came pre-installed but I don't think I can cough out 18,000 sh for a valid copy. If the cost of software was proportionate to our income I believe most of us would run licensed copies of software. Hi I think you only need to worry about Office since for your win 7 and 8.1 once you upgrade to Win 10 you are safe coz its free. On office especially 365 all you need is to clearly plan on what your needs are after which you buy the solution that exactly fits those needs. I have seen guys rush to office 365 with unplanned implementation and they end up being very frustrated. For example moving to office 365 and yet all your client comps run office 2010 hence your users dont really get the great featured of office 365. Ms has guys certified on Volume License and they can advise. On Volume license there was something called Software Assurance which allowed one to upgrade for free to future newer versions of the software you purchase under volume license just by adding a few dollars but am not sure how it plays out now with 365. I have a virtualised host which has more than 10 Windows Servers VMs, for me to be able to comply with licensing by purchasing a single license of Windows 2012 Data Center Edition. This allows me to run unlimited number of Windows Servers VM's on that single host. This makes it affordable Therefore needs identification and getting the right solution. Guys, You might have very little room for maneuver with MS licences in the very near future. This is because they are hell bent on rolling out cloud applications exclusively eg Office 365. The good thing is that you can still be able to use Office 365 even when offline because it maintains an offline copy of your documents. Payments will be monthly but they can compute one time annual payments or even 3 years payments. Where you just pay and use. Once the period expires you will be given a small grace period after which your office will lock until you renew your subs. The good thing is that you can install many instances of office 365 with a single licence like on laptop, desktop, tablet, phone etc. I think the limit is 10 instances for a single user. I don't think there's anywhere to hide any more. As earlier said the MS staff in Kenya are very cooperative. You may invite them for discussions and further clarifications.
