Safaricom is sooo mean! Though Positively look at it this way::: They lock you inside(their network) psychologically, tell me who is will give you some credit on loan. I agree with Thuo, Safaricom is not in the business of loaning money, but they can reduce their 'risk' to nil (or close to nil) if they keep the loaned calls strictly within their network. Why? well, because it is like taking money from one account at safaricom to another account at safaricom. In case 1 million people default, safaricom will simply have a hole on paper but not in real life. However, if the borrowers called Zain lines and then defaulted, the hole in safaricom's books would be real because they would actually receive an invoice from Zain,.. they would pay for this with real money..thus be exposed. The illogic here Phares, is that people think that since "everybody" else is on Safaricom, then I gotta be on Safaricom too. While it is fine to be on the same sailing boat with the majority, when it comes to Safaricom vs Zain, there is an unfair competition, all in the name of keeping the business in the limeline. True to that there are more Safaricom numbers on my line ( I use Zain, since it was known as Kencell), but that does not mean I should quickly ran to Safaricom. The understanding that I have is quality over quantity. I remember you memtioning (during the Talking to Government) the unfair competition that Safaricom has entered into against Zain yet CCK turns a blind eye on this. The reason people are moving to safcom and not wandering is simple,,,, using equalities/inequalities... When they both started out, kencell was actually ahead and they made a mistake of insisting on per minute billing....mistake number one....then they went ahead to mistake number two ...concentrating on the upper class market while saf went for common mwananchi (which is exactly what equity did as well, going for the masses and look where both saf and equity are).... mistake number three....they have changed names three times now and none of the names feels kenyan or resonates with the common man (kencell comes close but it was used when they were busy alienating the common man and going for rich people so it counts for nothing). Well, I think CCK still has a duty to protect operators from the selfishness of their clients (eg the guy who borrows safaricom's money to give it to zain). Remember, even when taking a conventional loan, u r often required to open an account with that bank and that is where they will deposit their money!
