Samsung TV vs Sony Internet TV ? And any Google TV soon ?

Hi, I want to buy an Internet TV... Last year, I had a look at the Sony TV, but I wasn't really convinced... then I heard about the Samsung TV but I haven't tried it... then heard about the Google TV (which is not available yet) and after doing some searches I found out you can even purchase a buddy box that sits between TV and decoder. Now, big question, should I go for the Samsung TV or wait for the Google TV or buy the Google Buddy Box? Please share your experience. Thanks

Also have a look at WDTV Live Hub or WDTV Live. http://wdc.com/en/products/homeentertainment/mediaplayers/ On Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 11:09 AM, TheBigBoss <thebigboss@peperuka.com>wrote:

What does an Internet TV do?? If you have a TV, a Home Theatre, a Laptop/computer, then there are two things you do not need as a techie: an Internet TV and a tablet! They are cosmetic wants!! :-) Why am I saying this? I recently acquired (I didn't buy!!) a Samsung Blue Ray/3D player which has WLAN/Ethernet capabilities. I connected the gadget to my home WiFi and plugged it into one of the HDMI ports of the TV. I couldn't browse using the Remote and even accessing Apps via the web wasn't that interesting. Yes, they call these SMART devices, but Internet should always be left to where it belongs - not on the TV! On Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 11:09 AM, TheBigBoss <thebigboss@peperuka.com>wrote:

@TheBigBoss, When you say Internet TV, do you mean the flat panel box of set top box like Apple TV, WD Live, Boxee? If you mean a flat panel, you can go for a good panel with high refresh rates and with LED. The other internet 'Apps' are useless, in the current setup. Just get a good panel, and get yourself and Apple TV or something closer. Apple TV works well for me. In term of HDTV, get a Sony. Their high end TVs are much better that Samsung.

@Philip, Could you kindly explain why you believe Sony's high-end TVs are *much*better than Samsung's or even LG? What parameters did you employ in your comparison? On Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 11:35 AM, Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com> wrote:

@Wash, Sometimes I am biased. I have used both Sony and Samsung LED TV and in my opinion the Sony had more vivid colors and was a clear winner in picture quality. It is a matter of personal preference. I also have an older Sony TV bought 5 years ago which does not have the Internet bells and whistles but it works up to this day like a charm. Haven't had any issues with it so for it is also a matter of durability. But I hear Samsung has some new gems in town, but haven't tried them out.

I think yours is simply preference. On Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 12:15 PM, Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com> wrote:

@thebigboss If you are more into tech, hacking and spending more time than you should, you might want to look at http://apc.io/ or http://www.raspberrypi.org/ or various *chinese google tv boxes <http://goo.gl/JnE99>* Sorry if I seem to be advocating for android but it looks like its headed to be the platform of choice. @Odhiambo, you are so right... but I still have an old cathodic TV, no home theatre and old laptop hanging every 30 seconds or so :°( so I though it would easier to get a TV with built-in stuff (easier for kids and family)... But you are right guys, I will opt for the purchase of new digital TV + Home Theatre + TV media hub !! It looks like WD TV Live is a killer. I will contact the WD distributor to find out if available here : *Redington Kenya Ltd.* 209/1506 Abroville Apartment B.12 Nairobi, Kenya Phone: +254.20.2721638 / 020.6752336 info@redingtongulf.com !! Hi TheBigBoss, I understand your predicament. I recently replaced a Samsung Series 5 with the Sony KDL 40EX520. For someone who doesn't have the smart media player like the WDTV live, I would recommend the all in one package that the KDL offers. Complete with WiFi capabilities, Digital Audio out to an AVR/Home theater and plenty of Video connectivity options. If interested, I can hook you up with someone offering a brand new Sony KDL 40EX650. Check it out and let me know. http://www.sony.com.sg/product/kdl-40ex650 ./bernard On Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 11:09 AM, TheBigBoss <thebigboss@peperuka.com>wrote:

Well i echo the above. Sony have good products. Been using sony products since long time till now and havent had a hitch with them. Whereas i have had no first hand experiences of others mentioned brands here, i truly find them just aesthetic/outlook appeal but performance-wise seem lacking. If i need an electronic SONY brad comes first!
Quality of sound Quality of pics Outputs/inputs etc
Several of my friends have had to change "some brands" in favour of Sony. Their prices however aren't friendly in most cases though. Disclaimer: I dont work for sony, know anyone at sony or a shareholder at sony or own a sony shop - Nah! Wilson./ On Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 11:09 AM, TheBigBoss <thebigboss@peperuka.com>wrote:
