If you are more into tech, hacking and spending more time than you should, you might want to look at  http://apc.io/  or  http://www.raspberrypi.org/  or various chinese google tv boxes
Sorry if I seem to be advocating for android but it looks like its headed to be the platform of choice.
I particularly am looking for a way to get the apc product. available here

I have used both Sony and Samsung LED TV and in my opinion the Sony had more vivid colors and was a clear winner in picture quality. It is a matter of personal preference.

I also have an older Sony TV bought 5 years ago which does not have the Internet bells and whistles but it works up to this day like a charm. Haven't had any issues with it so for it is also a matter of durability.

But I hear Samsung has some new gems in town, but haven't tried them out.
