With respect to this. I am try to fill my returns and on the ods/excel document I am not getting a Tax Due figure of zero since AFAIK I don't owe KRA any money. My figure is Kshs 251.00. What does this imply? Is this correct? Does it mean my employer has not paid the 251.00? @Wanjau,it means the tax arising from your declared taxable pay (the auto calculated by excel macros) is more than your deducted PAYE by 251. Indeed you will have to pay the balance or unless you have not adjusted your insurance reliefs appropriately. I think some function somewhere in the worksheet is broken. I kept getting -1.13 and finally I had to meddle around with my gross until it balanced and I was able to generate the output with no errors. The diff is because KRA take your annual figure and divide by 12 then calculate the tax due per month. Me thinks it's an error. I stand to be corrected. KRA has resources for real fast connection and cable like Government Core Network has. And taking Government Services to another country is just stupid, that's exposing our secrets to another Government, e.g (Spy agency Employees) All they need is just to upgrade their up and down links ASAP. They have the money!!! Or are they just milking us!!!!! On 24 Jun 2015 10:29, "Watila Alex via skunkworks" < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

They definitely can. And we've got capacity today to launch 1000s of servers at Angani. And we've already built redundancy in (multiple datacenter). Waiting for the call ... :) But I think the problem may be deeper. It can't be just the fronted servers. You have to look at the application itself - is the fronted web service able to handle lots of load, is the DB able to handle lots of connections & transactions, and is all the code optimized properly. a small 4 GB VM can handle a LOT of requests, if optimized right, and using the right stack. I read only about 1.3m individuals have registered for iTax. That's small, and easily handled technically. However, I think we have a long way to go in internet services adoption if we can only penetrate to that level. I agree with Riyaz it's most likely a software/application problem. From the sideline my guess would be that the "real" problem is that KRA forgot to put performance-requirements into the RFP - and probably forgot to require a real-life simulated load-test (those are not that easy to do). From a procurement point of view it's "easy" to forget these things, and I know of countless or systems in Europe that are build/tendered the same way. But still KRA being the most "advanced" in public digital adoption should have the experience to remember it. .. Mike On 6/25/15 7:54 AM, Riyaz Bachani via skunkworks wrote:

Still, for a project of this magnitude, I expect there were highly skilled consultants who definitely billed millions to help come up with the project requirements and deliverables. And this not being the first system that KRA has implemented, by now they should have gotten good or at least better at this. We have gotten used to KRA issues that happen around this time, every year, like clockwork. -George From: Michael Pedersen via skunkworks [mailto:skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke] Sent: Thursday, June 25, 2015 2:56 PM To: skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke Subject: Re: [Skunkworks] KRA-Tax returns I agree with Riyaz it's most likely a software/application problem.

But I think the problem may be deeper.

Apparently Tata has done 3 in Africa – Kenya, Uganda and Zambia. http://www.tata.com/article/inside/qYoHJ73MZeI=/TLYVr3YPkMU=
Looks like itax was in pilot since Jan of 2013 according to CIO: http://www.cio.co.ke/news/top-stories/kra-insists-new-itax-system-works
And of course just like all good techies do once in a while after a shaky migration, KRA insists it works well (April 2014), the problems must exist in our heads.

But I think the problem may be deeper.

Professionals, The problem of this system is that proper change management was not done. If the project manager and business analyst did that then the system will not have this problems. We moved from mapato1 to itax. As always developers and system administrators will be blamed. We all know the problems and solutions that ail this system. Why cant we fire up a spreadsheet and we record this. When we are done forward it to them. Lets think differently.

They still have not learnt something call Cloud hosting. There is no way in hell they are going to host a system that the whole country depends on to file taxes in their premises and expect it to work unless they turn into an internet service provide where they can have unlimited up/down link. Why cant they see consultancy from experts on such mission critical matters? Refusing to know Oliver On Wed, Jun 24, 2015 at 1:34 AM, Stephen Wanjau via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

Let us not be so excited with Technology and Cloud Services thing and forget our data thiefs like US (US spies) and other foreign information malpractitioners. I still insist that we maintain data at KRA storehouse or create our own local cloud (in Karura Forest, Hotsite Mombasa and Coldsite in Kericho :) Isaac On 24 June 2015 at 09:57, Oliver Ndegwa via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:
