At that amount, I'd like to know what makes that damn thing better than Samsung Galaxy S! I saw it at approx Euro 600 in DBX. What is it about iPhone guys? Ok3chukwu??? -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

The KES 70,000 is not reflective of market price for the iPhone 3GS, it is just an exorbitant Orange KE price. The 16 GB iPhone 3GS goes for USD 600 In US and around GBP 499 in the UK (unlocked). But I am not sure we are at a point and time where you can compare the iPhone with a Samsung. Sent from my iPhone On Sep 22, 2010, at 23:16, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:

Ok3chukwu, Thanks but in the life of me, I touched an iPhone once, but what I am interested in knowing is what is it that an iPhone does so uniquely in communications that other phones (high end I am referring to, but not dependent on some phone OS) cannot do? What does an iPhone do so differently, or all this hype is just because it an "Apple"? (I know Joe M... must be looking so surprised. I cannot stand up and say this or that since I've never used any of the said smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy (although my first reason when I wanted to buy this phone, I didn't since its a Samsung - personal preference), neither have I used any Android. The fact that more than 80% of those who upgrade to iPhone4 are previous iPhone users does tell alot about Apple-addict features though. Right now, I can never dream of owning any other phone. ./Ok3ch On Thu, Sep 23, 2010 at 8:20 AM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi Washington, The most important value proposition of an i-Phone is that its trendy, that's the true value. Its a phone you want to show in public, similar to a trendy car (BMW X6 for instance, a toyota Prado would do the same but you would rather a BMW). Technically, an i-Phone provides a convergence of business and pleasure. *Business*: mail sync (Microsoft Exchange, Gmail, Yahoo...); VPNs (L2TP, Cisco IPSec..); Cisco Webex, Apple Store *Pleasure*: Safari browser (better browsing experience), i-Pod, i-Tunes... The Apple Store in particular is very rich, over 100,000 apps. Other smartphones also have similar features, but as I mentioned, the i-Phone is trendy. Android is even getting more closed than the iPhone, just look at the trend of the providers like Verizon setting up their own app stores which sooner or later as long as you are on their network, you can only use it - mark my words, not now, but sooner. Soon all providers might follow suit and you get more restricted than you ever thought. Lemmi look for the masahble article I read on this and share. ./Ok3ch On Thu, Sep 23, 2010 at 8:50 AM, Josiah Mugambi <jmugambi@gmail.com> wrote:

Hehehe - @Josiah, you are a true techie - reading what you want to read and not what is written. I said signs are that very soon the networks like Verizon after having their own stores and signs are that they will restrict you to ONLY use their app stores. Alternatives to ROM's to use, I agree but tell that to your CEO and wait to hear the response. I've been arguing with my CEO about how the iPhone having more than 100k+ apps is the real deal and you can guess how the discussions always end. ./Ok3ch On Thu, Sep 23, 2010 at 9:15 AM, Josiah Mugambi <jmugambi@gmail.com> wrote:

You should look at the iPhone like a device, what the iPhone is is a ecosystem of lifestyle and value. And that is what separates the iPhone from the pack. If you have used an iPhone and one of the many Android phones, you will just notice the difference between the sleekness and the responsiveness of the iOS as compared to the Android; which feels a bit sluggish regardless of the Phone it is in. Th iPhone may be expensive, but I don't find is far more expensive that similar phones. The App Store remains closed and controlled so at to ensure quality of the applications developers churn out. I would rather have that than a system than has run amok with millions of applications that don't work or even are harmful. Best case is Windows Operating system.

Ok, I am usually very confused by the "actual price of an iPhone"; when it was announced, it was put at $299 and $199 (USD) Now Orange are selling it for $1000 (USD) - what is the justification ? Are there richer people in Kenya as compared to the US (below): Apple iPhone 3GS price drops to $97 at Walmart By Andrew Nusca | May 24, 2010, 6:14pm PDT Summary Walmart announced that it will sell the 16GB Apple iPhone 3GS for just $97 with contract. *===* * * * * *Walmart* on Monday announced that it will sell the *16GB Apple iPhone 3GS* for just *$97* with contract. http://www.zdnet.com/blog/gadgetreviews/apple-iphone-3gs-price-drops-to-97-a...

Apple has complicated arrangements with most carriers that carry the iPhone. When you buy an iPhone on contract, you will pay a fixed amount of money per month for a duration of usually 2 years and the carrier will throw in some data and some minutes. Now if you add the total contract value plus the small upfront payment of lets say USD 97, the cost of the phone will be much higher than if you bought 'Pay-As-You-Go' or contract free. Contract free does not mean unlocked though. Now the situation in the UK is different, with 3 carries, O2, Orange and Vodafone carrying the iPhone. So Apple simply ships them unlocked; but you will pay market price for them; around GBP 450 for 16GB and GBP 590 for a 32GB. With Orange KE, the prices is just not logical. It is among the highest in the mainstream iPhone carrier networks. May be Rita can give us a justifications. I think that has curtailed the penetration of the iPhone in the Kenyan market. Most people I know with iPhones have had to ship them from other countries. Now if Orange KE can have a reasonable price for the iPhone, I am sure they will sell much more units and even catalyze an ecosystem of iPhone developers like they way Nokia is doing. I would love to do all banking and airline reservation and ID application on some sleek iPhone App. Of course these Apps can be ported to other platforms; though I don't normally do other platforms but there are some people who do.

Ok, let me try to shed some light, When the iPhone launched at $299 and $199 in the US, that if it was bought under a two year contract. That means you are locked to the cellphone network like, AT&T for two years, that way they can sell you the handset cheap because they will recover the cost with your network bills. Orange Kenya is trying to do the same thing here but their prices are way outrageous. Most of the iPhones you see floating around are bought from the States then unlocked. Personally I got one like that off ebay - An iPhone 3G for about 24K. Then you unlock it and it can work with any GSM SIM Card. With Regards, Brian Wangila, PHP Web Programmer, Tel: +254728750875,

It developed some problems sometime early August and as it was under warranty I took it back. It has been over a month and despite my many trips there the phone is 'still not back'. Apparently they get their phones from phone xpress and so they have to take it back to phone express for repairs. The worst bit is no one there cares. I have spoke to three different customer care reps, but none of them seems concerned. Moral lesson: "Stay away from Orange"

They say you can cut all forests but monkeys will forever be monkey's, even if you built them a house and clothe them. They always run around doing *"nyef nyef"*. Telkom will always be Telkom, whether they change to Orange, Banana or Ndimu. I've had my fair share of the same.

Currently there are iphone 3G, 3Gs and 4G. 3G ==> 8Gb and 16Gb 3Gs==> 16Gb and 32Gb. Therefore; is there any other difference in the 16GB iphone, and 32GB iphone, apart from the size of the flash cards? Your 16GB cab be either 3G or 3Gs - very different!<http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/08/iphone-3g-vs-iphone-3g-s-the-tale-of-the-tape/> Regards, frank On Thu, Sep 30, 2010 at 6:21 PM, Daniel Kamau <kamau.daniel@gmail.com>wrote:
