hi all, i have bravely erased my windows OS and installed ubuntu , but for some strange reason my headphones have no sound and the speakers still work after plugging in the headphones. and before you tell me to google i have googled and they say something about sound drivers , i am just hoping someone has experienced this before and the steps they resolved it with. otherwise my first ubuntu steps haven't been bad , its actually a wonderful system. and finally i have vlc running for movies , what good music players are there for ubuntu ? ubuntu now, ubuntu yesterday , ubuntu forever ( just as soon as i get the headphone thingy fixed) regards theus

Suluhisho labda sina, but welcome to the club!!

Hello Theus and welcome to the club. (I strongly believe the only way to appreciate linux is to wipe out everything else and go into it head first). It does help to give a little more information when asking questions like these especially since usually problems are sometimes specific to certain conditions. so for instance: -> which version of ubuntu -> which laptop (im assuming) brand and make. and then the problem. well offer our best even if sometimes its a link to the solution.. this may sound like egress towards the super natural but i find the .10's more stable than the .04s. Which is why all my servers are either on 8.10, 9.10 or 10.10 and why im probably not in a hurry to upgrade anything till December....
