[OT]: Obtaining a DL in foreign country
Hi guys, This is completely off-topic. Can a Kenyan working in a foreign country, say Uganda get a driving licence there? What is required? Is the DL valid in Kenya or does he have to go through the whole procedure again here? Will really appreciate your input. Thanx
Your question gets confusing at some point but here goes, Many countries give a sort of Grace period like 2 weeks for you to use the lisence from your country However if you get an AA international drivers license then it saves you the trouble of having to get one in the other country coz its a process that can kill you For east africa (Kenya UG and TZ , not sure about rwanda and burundi) your kenyan DL is valid. I worked last year in Rwanda for two months and I was driving with my Kenyan DL they accept it there .... only that they drive on the wrong side of the Road... I also had an IDL from AAK and used it in west Africa for nine months I paid 5K only ... again wrong side of the road .... but then why get a UG DL why not just take two weeks leave come get your self a kenyan one ... I know of non-Kenyans who have applied for Kenyan DLs and got them. I suppose Uganda might allow for the same, but perhaps UG is different. As to whether it would be valid in Kenya, again presumably since a Kenyan DL is valid in UG, the reverse would work as well, but perhaps this logic does not apply. Any Ugandans care to chime in?
