Hi Judy, Barrack, hi all,
The global membership numbers might be useful for you to have once you will be asked by us to update your new Chapter's record in the Chapter Portal (this will be part of the Chapter formation process), as you would be able to easily see who is already an Internet Society member and who is not.
However, the membership number is not absolutely necessary otherwise. First name, last name and e-mail address should be sufficient at this stage to find the members again in our database.
I hope this answers your question.

What we need to do is: To become an official chapter of ISOC you need to apply for recognition and provide the following documents: 1. An official Application. This should be fairly trivial, as it is not a difficult form to fill in. 2. A completed set of bylaws. These chapter bylaws should conform to ISOC chapter policies. This is going to be the hard bit. Will we form a Society? an NGO? What kinds of things do we want to do as a Chapter? These questions feed into the by-law discussion. and we need a mailing address as well...do we have one? 3. Your Chapter also needs to have at least 25 Members who are subscribed as ISOC members (all members of a chapter must be members of ISOC). #3 is done of course. -- Cheers, McTim "A name indicates what we seek. What we need to do is:
To become an official chapter of ISOC you need to apply for recognition and provide the following documents:

Good work Grace! I think we need to do some work on The Society’s objects: *a) to promote realization of a safe, open Internet for all Kenyans;* this is non-controversial *b) to represent the Kenyan Internet community in fora that deal with governance of the Internet;* * * We already have 2 members of the GAC from KE, various folk participate in IETF and RIR meetings, lots of ppl active in IGF, etc. Does ISOC KE have legitimacy to "to represent the Kenyan Internet community"?? What about an ICANN At-Large Structure, do we want to join ICANN At-Large?? *c) to promote development of Internet in Kenya through, among others, trainings and public education;* What sort of trainings do we want to do? *d) to promote development of Internet standards in Kenya;* * * This is ambiguous, are we saying we want to help kenyans become involved in IETF and W3C activities? It suggests we want to develop our own standards here in Kenya, at least that is one interpretation of the sentence. * * * e) to work together with other Kenyan and international bodies with the similar objects.* * * * * While non-controversial this is fairly meaningless. * * * * *-- Cheers, McTim "A name indicates what we seek. To work together with other bodies with similar objects is an objects is also a blanket provision to enable the Society partner with other organisations.... Do you think there is a way we can improve these provisions? Do we need other objects? I also noted that so far we are silent on borrowing, ie taking loans...please give your views on the same. The Board (of Trustees) to provide strategic leadership while the Secretariat implements the strategy (day-to-day running of the Chapter). At the initial stage, perhaps we can sign an MOU with a volunteer organization to support the Secretariat function, for example by providing office space and what comes with that; and paying an intern to coordinate the ISOC functions until the Chapter is stable. The Board should be made up of volunteers and thus no financial implication. Vincent, On Board of Trustees, this is duly noted and provided for in Articles 9 (3) and 10 (1). Please have a look and comment on whether this is reflective of the same. Is there a suggestion for an organisation that can be approached to host the executive commitee, which shall be running general affairs of the Society....this is especially important at this stage as they may be able to provide the registered office of the Society. Cheers! 2011/9/7 <vincent@ngundi.me.ke>

Dear all, I think iHub being an incubation centre might help at this - we just need to explore this option although they are keen on mobile computing but it is worth to try. I agree with Vincent, during our first meeting the importance of working with our ccTLD was discussed at length, in our next meeting we will explore how we can work together with KeNIC which is a key instituion in the Internet Space in Kenya. McTim, we got 25 registered members on https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ArDnnGk2dZYhdGJqV1ZrTzJibEk0MVV..., thanks to Judy, what is the next step, Grace, have you looked at the bylaws?, listers kindly register the bus is moving at a good pace. Kind Regards
What we need to do is:
To become an official chapter of ISOC you need to apply for recognition and provide the following documents:

Very well, colleagues kindly registered, so far only 14 have registered, we need at least 25 for the Chapter to be registered.

Best regards,
Christine
