In this field affirmative action is only implemented if you match up in skills and personality. Point 2 - In IT related careers the worst you can say about yourself is 'i can do anything in IT'. Mentorship - that's the word. Perhaps we could look at how seasoned IT professionals could use the blog or other channel to guide the young ones in the industry in such matters as these. We need many different types of competences and if you can be a bit specific especially on the area you have mentioned of web development i have a few leads... So its your call impress us. Show us your worth in any area of interest and we could show you the way

Patronas.... Kenya's fast paced telecoms industry has no time for foundation classes (CV writing, cover letters etc) - i believe Rachel appreciates what we are telling her. Jobs and even internships are not just dished out like bananas during Moi's time - you've got to stand out (not even necessarily with your technical skills) Why am i speaking like i know it all? its because i went through a similar experience. Two years ago, Theus Owicho (a member of this list) asked me to pass my CV to him for an internship. I told him this "I only have hard copy, nikuletee wapi tao?". That did it for me....i missed the opportunity.But i learnt that i have to be proactive and above AVERAGE in life skills!. It exposes quite a lot.....some even post their applications here thinking skunkworks is a person/company. Yet when you go through their flashy CVs the only IT thing they might have a slight problem in doing is turning a CRT into a Touchscreen!
