Hi Guys, I need some little advice al appreciate any info i can get on this. I have a product i have come across for the mobile telephone industry that Safaricom,Zain n other providers we have, have not yet introduced into the market inspite of it being used by major carriers around the world. This product i believe will have a great impact on mobile users. Now i also feel like its just a matter of time before they come across it (if they havent done so already). It is a product that can be worth some millions since every provider will want to use it. Now i need any advice you guys can offer in regards to how i can introduce the product here before the big guys (Safcom and the rest) do so. Meaning also selling it to them before they go to the main company itself. I dont have the financial might to launch it on my own. This is why i need any advice i can get on what options i can look at if it means partnering with someone or sell the idea to someone etc, That kind of stuff. You can contact me onlist or offlist. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks guys. Regards, Mwangi

Is it just me or it is somewhat dark here. A hint about what kind of product/service it is will go a long way in getting you the advice, else we are all just groping in the dark (which is a very uncomfortable past-time imo) ------------------------------ <MotoBaridi, incoherently mumbling to self since 1981> ------------------------------ T: +254 722 296 184 , +254 732 296 654 On Wed, Apr 22, 2009 at 5:02 PM, Caddillac 1 <caddillac1@gmail.com> wrote:

Fellow skunks, I think Mwangi is extremely nervous that if ANYONE even gets a hint of what he wants to do then he is doomed (I know the feeling). Let us not pressure him to unveil his catch .. just so as to put him at ease, but let us give him all the contacts we can... may be even ours (if in a position to help). Here is my piece of advise Mwangi. You may know something that has great potential that no one else does in the industry, or at least that is what you believe. There are many small companies out there that have some capacity to handle the kind of stuff that I think the partners that you are dealing ith need. These people are looking for opportunities and what you need is to package your idea into a business plan. Then carefully choose who to approach, while trying to cover yourself to make it hard for anyone to steal your idea. That is possible because if the foreign partners see that you can pull it off then they will give you some guarantees. I am talking about negotiation here. But if you tell it all on a list like this it will go so fast you will not know what hit you. And as someone said, do your research properly. Maybe the local boys know about the technology already, only that they have not implemented. Its not an easy thing, the situation you find yourself in. have you tried to patent it locally (try KIPI - Kenya Industrial Property Rights Institute)? coz if you do manage to patent (even just to start patenting is enough) then no one will start unless you the owner of the idea or projetc will be involved. What's the big secret?, tell us more about the product, chances are the providers have already come across it, i think they call it marketing intelligence ;) And this is Kenya, dont even think about patenting as you'll still get ripped off. -- Δαβίδ W. C. Fields <http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/w/w_c_fields.html> - "A rich man is nothing but a poor man with money."

The key thing would be to secure exclusive rights for distribution of the product in Kenya, however in order to do so you'd have to show the ability and resources for distribution. It's a quintessential chicken and egg problem. Ken 2009/4/22 David Njuki <njukey@gmail.com>

Five years ago, a Kenyan fresh from campus came up with a solution(currently in use) for the mobile industry , he went for a demo in one of the mobile companies, they liked the solution and the whole idea, at the end of the Demo, the CEO asked the guy "who is the big man behind this?" the guy goes like "me and my friend" One of the managers later on explained to them, that for anything to sell, they had to have someone behind it, not just anyone, has to be some top political figure atleast an MP,Minister, ex MP, Businessman-tycoon for that matter, top Government official etc. So my friend had to find someone, found an ex-MP's son and partnered with him making use of the ex-MP's name ofcourse. my advice, as someone suggested, patent it, as for exclusive distribution rights you might have to convince the mother company about that, have a company in place with good cash. Alternatively, find some tycoon (like Kirubi) sell the idea to him but all in all you will not make as much as you are anticipating, someone will cut you off at one point. all the best. JK.
