Re: [Skunkworks] Tips to Boost your Android Phone Battery Life

Tip no. 2: I use AVG which I think takes this work a little bit too seriously. At 30% it kills all my connections, reduces brightness (and a few other battery optimizations)
People install anti virus on phones? Doesn't it really make sense or just a windows hungover?

They do stop you from installing suspicious apps. Adverts have overtaken porn as the leading source of malware on smartphones. Especially that Mobogenie thingie. On Wednesday, 12 March 2014, William Muriithi <william.muriithi@gmail.com> wrote:

Well, you are free to install anything on Android. Here, people don't depend on some adult somewhere telling them what they can install and what they can't. The only limitation here is the tech IQ of users. Most users do not understand their way around technology and trust those adverts from the Russians asking them to scan their phone by installing some shady app. On Wednesday, 12 March 2014, Okechukwu <okechukwu@gmail.com> wrote:

From my personal experience, you spend more time "installing anything" than using the actual phone. I'd rather I can't "install anything" and use my phone - IMHO
Btw, this is the prime reason why I ditched Linux on the desktop - I used to spend 70% of my time trying this and that and only 30% working - Very very bad for the employer. ./Ok3ch On Wed, Mar 12, 2014 at 9:33 AM, Jimmy Thuo <jimmy.thuo@gmail.com> wrote:

@Jimmy - You cannot disagree with a statement you didnt understand in the first case! Yes, you can use it out of the box without installing anything, I can't, coz I will want to tinker with it and install anything I want - thats the difference, thats why I'd rather iOS which I cant tinker with and have it work. Okech, I disagree. You can use the android phone out of the box without installing anything.
@Thuo, I disagree with your disagreement :-) A stock Nexus 4 does not have whatsapp, and of what use is any phone without whatsapp?

To bring this thread on track.... Another very effective and reliable way to improve battery life is to ...... turn off darn your phone :-) On Wed, Mar 12, 2014 at 12:15 PM, Peter Karunyu <pkarunyu@gmail.com> wrote:

I kind of understand what Okech is saying. Too much choice is debilitating. I used to dual boot any computer available to myself till i realized that i was wasting more time and effort than just sticking to one platform. Same goes for Android, the ability to do anything usually makes you do stuff that isn't so useful. E.G i doubt flashing custom ROMS leads to any particularly spectacular increase in productivity. I could argue this out but cant since it's based on absolute lies and ignorance. That there are no malware and/or antiviruses for iphone. Yes, there are no fully-fledged scanners - not because there are no malware, but because the iOS arch and Apple policy does not allow. So people may harbour malware but they will probably never know.
