Is this QB's culture to steal ideas then stab you in thr Back or does it happen everywhere. I am asking this so as not to fall in the same predicament Regards Cynthia

Cynthia, when you have an idea, it is better to patent it before , you give it to somebody... they will never stab in the back On Thu, May 24, 2012 at 10:12 AM, Cynthia Wahome <cwahome@jambo.co.ke>wrote:

Yeah, patenting is the way to go, but just visit Kenya Industrial Estates (or is it KIPO?) and see how discouraging it costs to patent an idea. On 24/05/2012, Joseph Maina <mainasoft00@gmail.com> wrote:

Given there are 6 billion people on this planet, it is extremely unlikely that an idea is unique. Not impossible, but unlikely. Further, it's not the guy who doesn't first who succeeds. Safaricom is not even the entity that developed MPesa concept by the way. Lots of examples abound. Before Facebook there was linkedin, Friendster, beebo, Orkut and dozens of others. Don't fixate on ideas. It's not he who thinks first who wins. It is he who executes it best. On Thursday, May 24, 2012, Solomon Mbũrũ Kamau wrote:

Well, if he presented it to them and they did not sign a document absolving themselves or present proof that they had already been working on something similar before he presented it in detail, then they have a case to answer...... -- Sent from my Voice Recognition Watch© -------------------------------------------------------------------- Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us.There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.As we let our own light shine, we consciously give other people permission to do the same. I dont know when the said event in the article happened; But I would blame the guy taking the idea to QB... It has been common knowledge in forums and other circles that QB has received presentations and then thrown a spear at the presenters. This has not only happened to individuals but to Big Companies as well - where the ideas would be presented; QB would listen; and get their inhouse tech to come up with the same concept (since they dont have to pay fees to their own employees) Some of these inhouse projects have been unsuccessful of course; because operators cannot be as good as product developing companies. The justification in all cases is that these ideas have been there; and have been tested in other countries etc.. They are just in the air for pickup. There is even a video online where MJ says this when asked about this subject. Which brings the whole issue in a circle :- why dont they just go ahead and get the ideas (from that air) without making local Individuals and Companies prepare presentations and give solution documents ? Bidding after a successful pitch would be more fair instead of screwing the presenters.

Question : If the MPESA idea that the gentleman presented to Safaricom became a failure and didn't generate tonnes of cash as it is doing now, would he have still been crying foul ? I am sure he would have disowned it. On Thu, May 24, 2012 at 1:03 PM, ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com>wrote:

May be yes; may be no... But we judge ideas by their success; his was a success; should he not be paid for it? If it was a flop; it would never have made headlines. This is a Paradoxical argument.

@Jose and @RAD For thsi particular case; The guy had an idea,QB called him and he proposed the solution. Later QB decides to "use the idea" because MPESA is theirs. So was this guy screwed or NOT? did he not deserve even a penny from QB? My two cents
