Ahoy Skunkers of both night and day.. I have a Linux print server running CUPS and samba where I want to connect windows clients. i.e. windows machines to print from this server. I do not want to install drivers on the windows machines as this beats the purpose of having a print server in the first place. I want them on the print server. The server is running FC8, the hosts are on XP and Win 7. Anyone with an idea how I can share the windows drivers on the fc8 server? Regards, George.

Windows is Windows, my friend, and it cannot print without drivers, whether real or emulated. From a layman's point of view, "drivers" are the glue between the logical (OS) layer and the physical (hardware) and so must be there, I believe.

Washington, I intend to get the drivers, but they should be hosted on the linux so that once you navigate to the printer share from your windows, you can double click on it and it can get the windows driver and install it. Easy then! Just get the drivers, extract them to /usr/local/drivers/printers/printername/, then export /usr/local/drivers via samba, in read-only mode. Make sure your Linux box is in the same WORKGROUP/AD DOMAIN as your wrkstations. You will need to create those directories referenced. When installing a printer and prompted for drivers, just browse to $LINUX/drivers/printers/printername and choose the right file/folder. Si ni hivyo? -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

sounds very much like it, let me do it and give feedback, thanks On Thu, Jul 15, 2010 at 6:17 PM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com>wrote:

Should be very simple, imho, as it only involves installing, configuring and enabling samba, as you already have CUPS running, and the printer configured.
Good luck!
