Safaricom IN blocking alphanumeric sender's smses.

Hi guys. I have a sms provider who allows me to personalize smses for my business but I noticed smses to safaricom prefix (including numbers ported out of safcom) don't get delivered but to other networks go through. This is what my provider tells me so I was wondering if there is a way around this issue? -- Regards, Job Njogu Muriuki, Phone: (+254) - 722906324 | 736333075 Skype: heviejob | Yahoo: heviejob Address: 42665 00100 Nrb

Depends on your SMPP account at Safcom. Note that all SMS to Safcom subscribers must transit thru their SMSC. Looks like they restrict the Source Address parameter on the SMPP configuration. Your SMS provider can sought that with Safcom VAS guys. On Fri, Feb 24, 2012 at 1:03 PM, Job Muriuki <muriukin@gmail.com> wrote:

Why is it affecting my Ported out number. Its no longer on safaricom. -- Regards, Job Njogu Muriuki, Phone: (+254) - 722906324 | 736333075 Skype: heviejob | Yahoo: heviejob Address: 42665 00100 Nrb

Interesting question. Is your SMS provider only bound to the Safaricom SMS-C? The reason I ask is : If not, it will be much simpler if the ported numbers simply received the messages from the SMPP accounts bound onto their respective 'new' providers' SMS-Cs.

Its not a question of scum, its a thing-to-do with profits. Safricom's bulk SMSes retail at above KES 2.00 while 'other providers' can be as cheap as 90 cents. So if safaricom cant get this business, they flex their muscle since most are terminated at/on/thro their SMSC. I think its more of a business angle than security or any other angle one may look at it. On 2/27/12, Bernard Mwagiru <bmwagiru@gmail.com> wrote:

By safaricom filtering international bulk sms, its a clear indication of how they are uncomfortable with a healthy competition. they should lower the bulk sms prices so that they get customers. For those who use routesms there is a way around the filter. On Tue, Feb 28, 2012 at 10:41 AM, joe mwirigi <joemwirigi@gmail.com> wrote:
