xperia 10 mini pro upgrade to Android 2.2 or higher

Hello, I bought the Sony Ericsson Xperia 10 mini Pro, but it was running Eclair. Has anyone successfully updated one to 2.3 or 2.2? According to Sony's site updates, 2.3 should be available. Is there anyone out there that can help me? -- __________________________________________________________________________ Out of clutter, find simplicity. From discord, find harmony. @Eva, What are you afraid of ? :-) Anyway, I have Xperia X10i which I upgraded using the SE Software Suite. It's running Gingerbread 2.3.3. The update for your model is http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/software/phones/xperia-mini-pro/ and you should not be afraid to brick your phone - you learn from the experience and you can always buy another:-) -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ I can't hear you -- I'm using the scrambler. Eva just google around i have the experia arc, which has been bugging me, so i change to cynogen 7 (i lost bluetooth and vibrate function) but there is a fix , as long as you read what others ave experienced and fixes to their issues you can decide whether its worth it BTW have you tried their PC suite upgrade? works very well if you device officially supports the update. So each Android phone manufacturer has a special Android Firmware for their phone? Androidization.

They all have the "official" one, but daring morons (droid(ette)s, sorry) always go out and get the unofficial ROMs :-) On Mon, Mar 26, 2012 at 11:03, Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com> wrote:

Thanks @Wash but I already have downloaded it, and it says that my phone is already running the latest software :( it is running 2.1 . Also, http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/168153 and http://androidcommunity.com/no-android-updates-for-sony-ericsson-xperia-x10-... both indicate that my poor phone will not get updates from the mother ship! :( @Gitagia I just need someone to guide me through, if not do it for me :) On Mon, Mar 26, 2012 at 11:03 AM, Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com> wrote:

Washington, It is also true that Android phones made even a late as last month may not even run the latest Android firmware?

By latest, you mean ICS (Ice Cream Sandwitch?)?? Well, what determines what version of Android you can run on your phone is the question, really, not the manufacture date. I am not very competent in that arena so I will leave it for the experts to comment on that. On Mon, Mar 26, 2012 at 11:18, Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com> wrote:

Ay Wash those custom ROMs run better than the Official ones, if only sony Ericsson (Sony) developers were upto task , then custom ROM developers wouldnt have such a big problem , i have seen huawei and samsung phones with custom ROMs and they run smoother and better (in my opinion) and from my experience screw the bluetooth i can now have fancier features and access to more apps and functionality that comes with the ROM , plus the cynogen team already have ported the ICS beta to my arc while the Sony team says its not supported ... now will i wait for a borin ICS ROM from sony or a some features missing but awesome ROM .... i do miss my radio though (. .) @Gitaiga, I agree with you about getting the phone running smoother or even getting to use more apps. However, I must say that bar for the crazy guys, most people will not even make out the difference if you gave them two of the same phone - with Factory ROM and Custom ROM. They'll most likely raise an issue about the UI only. Well, let's take a typical case here. I'd like to ask @Eva why she wants to update her phone. Eva, what is it that you are missing in the default ROM that you feel you stand to gain by upgrading?? On Mon, Mar 26, 2012 at 12:03, geoffrey gitagia <ggitagia@gmail.com> wrote:

When you go CM7 and discover the power of the DSPManager it will definitely be worth it :) For those who want to go a step further, overclocking will also be a plus. Though u can do this on most phones with just rooting On Mon, Mar 26, 2012 at 11:15 AM, Eva Kimathi <evakimathi@gmail.com> wrote:

I agree with you about getting the phone running smoother or even getting to use more apps. They'll most likely raise an issue about the UI only.
Well, let's take a typical case here. I'd like to ask @Eva why she wants to update her phone.
Eva, what is it that you are missing in the default ROM that you feel you stand to gain by upgrading??

It's actually scary, but you can do it. I know you are capable:-) Start at HERE <http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1549221>and read and read and read, then see if you can start making steps, or let Gitaiga run the show... What I know is that all these custom ROMs need one to understand what they are getting into. The moment you make the decision, then you move .... and the decision is normally about what you get and what you loose... On Mon, Mar 26, 2012 at 11:31, Eva Kimathi <evakimathi@gmail.com> wrote:

This is why you should avoid Android phones with custom user interfaces. Run for the Chinese like ZTE, affordable, and can be moderately be updated various versions up (albeit unofficially)

Hello, So...i am still digging through the (very few) root tools available for me and my phone, Z4Root (executes and fails but does not say why) and UniversalAndroot. Got one UniversalAndroot. I like it because it produces a log during the root process. It, however, terminates on an error. I have attached the logfile. I hope someone can help me :( On Mon, Mar 26, 2012 at 10:57 PM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

@Eva, Mother ship decided not to update the software for most of their phones, opting instead to unleash newer phone models spotting the newer Android versions/MUI, hoping that would make them more money, while forgetting that this disappoints their fans who soon dump them for the likes of Nexus One, etc... I believe that is why Sony Ericsson (now Sony Mobile) is struggling to catch up in the mobile market. I am retaining mine on 2.3.3 though, because you sometimes waste so much time with the Custom ROMs, finding as such features don't work. Guess what I hate most about my phone? It's the SE Logo and Name. I wish I could scratch them all out! Plus their speakers and camera sux - not as featureful as, say, on the Nokia... I feel your frustration, I have the same issue with my X10 mini Pro, running 2.1-update1. 2.3 is not officially available for the mini. I used PC companion to update my X10i to Gingerbread though. Seems SE won't be releasing any updates for the mini. One of these days I hope I'll have the time to try a custom ROM - and some money to set aside for a new phone in case I brick it!
