This is a service I have felt has badly lacking in pay TV. Other countries I have visited have both VOD for free (slightly older movies) as well as those available for a small fee (new movies). The next phase of the BoxOffice roll-out will be an online offering, available to all South African broadband users by the end of this year. It is retailing at about 325 per movie and is for only premium subscribers with PVR decoders. what are your thoughts....will it work out in Kenya ? I dont think it will work in Kenya because of lack of proper legislation to curb piracy. Regards Kevin On Thu, Jul 21, 2011 at 7:03 PM, Brian Ngure <brian@pixie.co.ke> wrote:

It’s a brilliant product but with the growth of online multiplatform VOD services from companies like Netflix, Hulu , BBC iplayer , Amazon VOD and Google tv ,I think this will a short-lived product/service. Right now these services are mostly available to US and European residents but It wont be long before such companies have a global presence and content will be available to anyone with a fast enough internet connection anywhere in the world . Most of these services have got multiplatform apps that can be installed on PC/MAC/ LINUX/XBOX /PS3 including some of the newer internet enabled tv’s that have come to market. It all comes down to price and availability on content . Vince

This platform will be ruled by content...especially since they are well positioned to offer African content that other companies would be slow to take up. I think they are very well positioned with this. On Fri, Jul 22, 2011 at 8:17 AM, Vincent Wayodi <wayodi@gmail.com> wrote:

I hope the Kenyan VOD company has its servers in Kenya. Why? it's easier to convince Safaricom, Orange, Airtel, Yu to charge a fixed monthly data fee for that connection. On 22 July 2011 09:57, bernard kioko <bernsoft@gmail.com> wrote:

New/Recent movies on VoD?......In Kenya? The latest movie will be VODed to a decoder hooked to a comp for DVR purposes. The recorded Video will then be converted to VOB (or any other DVD readable format) and burnt to an empty imation DVD to boost its value from < 20 bob to > 50 bob then sold to as many folks as possible _______________________________________________ *#define TRUE FALSE* //Happy debugging suckers! _______________________________________________ * * 2011/7/22 Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com>
