I can reliably say that i know of a Kenyan Company currently preparing to launch ONLINE VOD with local Kenyan movies.....watch out for the link next week.
This platform will be ruled by content...especially since they are well positioned to offer African content that other companies would be slow to take up. I think they are very well positioned with this.

It’s a brilliant product but with the growth of online multiplatform VOD services from companies like Netflix, Hulu , BBC iplayer , Amazon VOD and Google tv ,I think this will a short-lived product/service. Right now these services are mostly available to US and European residents but It wont be long before such companies have a global presence and content will be available to anyone with a fast enough internet connection anywhere in the world .
Most of these services have got multiplatform apps that can be installed on PC/MAC/ LINUX/XBOX /PS3 including some of the newer internet enabled tv’s that have come to market. It all comes down to price and availability on content .
