I've been looking for a e-book reader smart phone that has a display good enough so as not to stress your sight. My first Nokia smart phone device to have USB charging. *Pros :* - 30GB built-in - qwerty keyboard - Battery life is good - 2 built-in speakers, good for FM and music - Touch screen - Very good call quality sound - Inscreen widgets make it easy to add application and content shortcuts - Gmail app for gmail emails - 5Mp camera - Keylock - Proximity sensor works very well during calls *Cons:* - Had to purchase PDF reader - Had to purchase Quick Office to edit files In the box you also get a car charger and other goodies.

Aki, Am actually using the phone.Another con is the battery life. Not so good esp. If you are an internet person. Its just a mess.I think thats where the berry beats the phone.O'wise its good. On 28/09/2009, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

I've not yet reached that part of the sites as I'm working on the lower layer of CDN via secure and non-secure. Can you not use plugins to initiate the pull sequence, then push will work fine? On Mon, Sep 28, 2009 at 12:00 PM, I. Ati <mueni0@gmail.com> wrote:

@Chuks, use the Nokia software updater that's included in the install CD. Or you can download directly from Nokia. Once the updater picks the update, it will automatically prompt you for conencting the phone via cable to begin the process. I see the problem. Unfortuantely, I don't think any telco does OTA services but I saw the handset on safaricom ad page. Maybe they provide OTA updates if you buy from them. BTW, this is another interesting thing then. Do telcos like provide any OTA services to contract clients? QuickOffice had an free update for Nokia E-Series users, do such things get implemented here? Try this for the N97 updater : http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/download-software/device-so...

@I.Ati you could go both ways... it all depends on the content you want to serve to mobile users as opposed to what you want to serve to Desktop users. so if you have totally different content or the website has been developed too rigidly etc you may need a different version of the mobile site altogether. however if the content is from the same source and your site has been designed well, using a specific css for the mobile version and another for the desktop version would be the way to go... you could even have another css for a print version. Anyway whichever way you choose to go you will need to be able to detect the user-agent to be able to serve up the right content. Microsoft came up with browscap.dll and an updateable browscap.ini file that maintains the browser information. since they didn't do a good job in keeping it up to date, it was left athe mercy of any Tom, Dick and Harry to keep the ini file up-to-date. Gary Kieth took up the initiative and i think he has been doing a good job at it and he took the trouble of providing a way to use the browscap.ini file without relying on your webhost to keep an updated copy. you can download the files from here http://browsers.garykeith.com/downloads.asp and incorporate the pluggin into your sites.
Gary Kieth took up the initiative and i think he has been doing a good job at it and he took the trouble of providing a way to use the browscap.ini file without relying on your webhost to keep an updated copy. you can download the files from here http://browsers.garykeith.com/downloads.aspand incorporate the pluggin into your sites.

@I. Ati then in that case the best would be to skin all the content with css then use the browscap functions to determine which user is using a mobile device and which user is'nt. If you need help on how to plug the code into your page let me know I. Ati wrote:

A very basic guideline would be to use valid XHTML markup, and a 'fluid layout' i.e. a layout that will expand to fit in whatever screen width it encounters. Generally, avoid tables and fixed measurements. If you have huge images on the site however, you;ll have to strip them down to mobile friendly sizes.. it might even mean redirecting users to an alternate mobile site altogether. you can then test how mobile ready your site is on http://ready.mobi . Best of luck! 2009/9/29 I. Ati <mueni0@gmail.com>

@all, was their an offer for N97's @Chuks it does not hurt to read the user manual, its the big book that comes in the box under the phone and its accessories. If paper hurts Nokia Nseries's come with the manual on a CD as well. Also remind to give you the softwares. I have downloaded PC-suit + updater about 40Mb total and the update is about 60Mb (for my phone). @I.Ati their are two popular methods (1) build two sites normal for web and another for mobile. use this if your site is heavily dependant on java and flash. also where mouse gestures and banner adds are popular build another for mobile devices. (2) build one site that is mobile compliant use XHTML-mobile or Strict. With this site ensure that all Java or flash functions are optional. All multimedia is sufficiently small or elastic (fluid layout). Avoid long Menues at the top of the page as phones navigate by tab sequence. @the Nokia guru, I updated my N73 firmware and got a mobile TV app, but when i run it it says that it cannot find device (this comes after searching for bluetooth devices), where and how much is this device its looking for? Ashford K.

Hi @Ashford, am not aware of an offer on N97s. And I think there are others who are Nokia gurus on the list, but it seems your question about the mobile tv app looking for a bluetooth device may have to do with DVB-H hardware you need, a unit called SU-33W, a bluetooth tv receiver. Its here on Nokia : http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/accessories/all-accessories/home-and-o... . HTHs. On Tue, Sep 29, 2009 at 5:24 PM, Ashford Kuria <kuriashford@gmail.com>wrote:
