@I.Ati you could go both ways... it all depends on the content you want to serve to mobile users as opposed to what you want to serve to Desktop users. so if you have totally different content or the website has been developed too rigidly etc you may need a different version of the mobile site altogether. however if the content is from the same source and your site has been designed well, using a specific css for the mobile version and another for the desktop version would be the way to go... you could even have another css for a print version.

Anyway whichever way you choose to go you will need to be able to detect the user-agent to be able to serve up the right content. Microsoft came up with browscap.dll and an updateable browscap.ini file that maintains the browser information. since they didn't do a good job in keeping it up to date, it was left athe mercy of any Tom, Dick and Harry to keep the ini file up-to-date.

Gary Kieth took up the initiative and i think he has been doing a good job at it and he took the trouble of providing a way to use the browscap.ini file without relying on your webhost to keep an updated copy. you can download the files from here http://browsers.garykeith.com/downloads.asp and incorporate the pluggin into your sites.
