Based on the Tweet posted above- it seems Safaricom is not willing to share any profits from any idea involving MPESA. Case and Point - the standoff between Equity and Safcom etc Time and time again - the Safcom the marketers/sales team have proven to be Sharks - no one on their right mind should ever ever trust any Shark.

its rather logic.swiming with the sharks

you cannot patent a way of doing business. dnt waste time taking safaricom to court. its a lost case. On 25/08/2013, Vincent Kiama <vinikiama@gmail.com> wrote:

I am actually giving out my ideas to safaricom for free. Just emailed one idea last month and will do so next month. One cannot patent a social innovation . Also however great my idea is, it can only work on the m-pesa backbone. On Aug 25, 2013 11:37 AM, "Kebaya" <humphreykebaya@gmail.com> wrote:

I think it is time for 'startups' to consider Venture capital and private equities. This way we will get in to the right partnerships, well documented and have bargaining power when it comes to negotiating with Giants. The business department of any company is always looking for award winning ideas, they will listen to you, think through it as they guide you to disclose what you have and as soon as they get it. Its just a twist away and PAP! they are gone. On Mon, Aug 26, 2013 at 8:53 AM, Antony Kimani <kimanianthoni@gmail.com>wrote:

Its as simple as this. I am a manager at Safaricom and my performance contract has put me on the chopping board for underperforming. Then a startup who knows a friend who knows I work for Safaricom comes to me and therein lies my chance to salvage my job. I go for it, implement the idea with the boss, get a promotion and leave the startup distraught. I will most likely be in an authoritative position to respond to accusations once the startup complains. Then I head to the beach. All in a days work.

I cringe when venture capital is seen to be the saviour of enterpreneurs. Money is a challenge yes but it is not what determines a businesses success. Most startups that I see looking for funding barely have paying customers. I think showing a revenue stream and potential growth will interest even commercial banks. but the "free" VC money will only bring problems and exploitation by the actual owners of the startup, Whoever gave you the money. Of course private equities require a very solid business plan, a set clientele niche that is tested and a good portfolio on product development and continuous improvement. Beyond any reasonable doubts.. The capitalist must see the money, he must see what you see and so that he cant set his financial goals against your dreams. Sometimes you have to go the extra mile and have a working system to affirm your credibility and to show how serious you are. But an idea? a lot of people will shy away from one!
But an idea? a lot of people will shy away from one!

there is never a unique idea, the question is whats your approach and are you a first mover to enjoy monopoly for the time being before the market floods. If it does floods can you innovate to make business sense and look different from the floods. Any idea can be stolen but that does not mean that people will not invest.. Just make it tight and keep the trade secrets safe... There will always be something the copycats will miss. always! I think one should act fast, improve on the products , research well and have different scenarios to counter the external forces. Sometimes our ideas get stolen because we present them raw' there is never anything tangible and for the reason the copiers will fry it on a pan. I think the notion that the idea is what translates to success is not very smart. Making usable stuff that helps peoples lives does. its the only reason linux on the desktop has not become ubiquitous. Its rather difficult o setup and use if you are not a techie. same with any other ideas that come along. Microsoft had revenue from the word go with windows. Safaricom had revenue with their first call. the margins are another matter all together. On Mon, Aug 26, 2013 at 4:11 PM, Oliver Ndegwa <olie.ndegwa@gmail.com>wrote:

I think the notion that the idea is what translates to success is not very smart. Making usable stuff that helps peoples lives does. its the only reason linux on the desktop has not become ubiquitous. Its rather difficult o setup and use if you are not a techie. same with any other ideas that come along. Microsoft had revenue from the word go with windows. Safaricom had revenue with their first call. the margins are another matter all together.

Never , ever create a product or service that is solely dependent on one platform, where you are not the platform owner and the platform owner has no obligation, other than that of their good heart, to keep your product running on their platform, while they have enough money to hire ten times more people than your team, who are ten times smarter, to come up with a product similar to yours thats ten times better and make ten times more money than you. The technology you come up with has to be so good that you can patent it and if they copy, you can sue them for ten times more money than you hoped to make in your life.
