Hello skunk(ette)s, It suddenly occured to me that number portability might bring about issues i may not have quite grasped. for instance : What happens to services like Mpesa & Bank related services? Enjoy your week!. -- Posted on 100% recycled electrons

From the way CCK director Charles Njoroge was saying, it seems that it might be possible to migrate and keep Mpesa on your line. Bank related services should remain intact as they are linked to the line and not network.

Number portability means that you can migrate your MSISDN while you still keep your IMSI. MSISDN is the number like 0722-XXXXXX that is easy for subscribers to remember. IMSI is a number starting with 63902 for Safcom and 63903 for Zain etc. Its 12/14 digits or so. Its that IMSI that is used by the network (MSC , IN platform) to do charging etc. This means that even if your number (MSISDN) might look Safcom, you are actually a ZAIN sub. What matters is the IMSI On Mon, Jul 26, 2010 at 6:47 AM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

yuCash is across networks...for money transfer systems your number MSISDN is your account not the IMSI. On Mon, Jul 26, 2010 at 7:58 AM, [ Brainiac ] <arebacollins@gmail.com>wrote:

The MSISDN is mapped to the IMSI. MSISDN is what the subscribers know. Its like knowing your car number plate but it's hard to remebre Chasis number/Engine number . Both IMSI and MSISDN are unique. So you can migrate your MSISDN but keep your old IMSI meaning you are on your old network for charging and call setup issues etc On Mon, Jul 26, 2010 at 12:04 PM, kennedy kariuki <kkairu@gmail.com> wrote:

Thanks for the very detailed responses (im still rereading the acronyms) but just to be clear and using the example i would be relating to.... The government is now allowing me to move change my car to any number plate, but my insurance (read mpesa) is usually referenced to my chassis number so that if i change my number plate ill still be able to retain the insurance details, rigt?
