Show Skunkworks - Please Try OkHi Android App

Hi all, OkHi is a tech startup based in Nairobi that's trying to solve the lack of physical address system in Kenya and beyond. OkHi will help you get people to your house without the annoying phone calls, or help you get to an external business meeting without getting lost. I would love your help by downloading the app from: http://goo.gl/1mnE2v Also, please send any thoughts, comments, feedback directly to me. Thanks so much for your help, Timbo

Hello Timbo, I installed the app on my Nexus 4 but unfortunately it couldn't go past 'finding your location'. Otherwise the interface looks great and hope to try it out again soon. Regards, Joseph. On Tuesday, May 20, 2014, Timbo Drayson <timwiththebo@gmail.com> wrote:

Partnering with an online store that does deliveries (or Pizza joints that deliver) will drive up adoption. Love it! On Wed, May 21, 2014 at 11:24 PM, Joseph Tintale <jayxtintale@gmail.com>wrote:

Laban, have you been reading our OkHi strategy docs? You're spot on! We're starting to partner with food delivery services to bring faster deliveries to Nairobi and beyond. Watch this space! Partnering with an online store that does deliveries (or Pizza joints that
deliver) will drive up adoption. Love it!

Joseph, thanks so much for trying the app, apologies that you weren't able to create an address. We pushed a fix yesterday evening that will hopefully help your problem, can you check that you have the latest version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.okhi.app If not, it would be great if you could update the app and try again. If you do have the latest, would it be possible to send me your mobile no so that I can call you and try to debug the problem? Thanks for the feedback, clearly we're not doing a good enough job with messaging in the app. Short answer: we use your phone number as your identity key Long answer: our vision for OkHi is that you can securely share your saved addresses any time someone asks for your address. Think of it as an address passport. Imagine checking out on the Jumia website, rather than having to fill in your long delivery address and instructions every time, you just key in your phone number and OkHi password and can then select which OkHi address to send the goods to. Or, maybe you're calling up for KFC delivery. KFC already have your phone number so all you need to do is give them permission to view your OkHi addresses, say "home" and that spicy hot chicken will be delivered to your door before you can even finish describing directions of how to get to you in the old school way! Thoughts? Are these compelling use cases? On 22 May 2014 11:55, mash lists <mashlists@gmail.com> wrote:

Hey Timbo, I got the latest version and it didn't work as well until I changed my location settings. I believe most people have their location setting turned off (for privacy and power saving reasons). I suggest that you make the app check whether the location status is turned on or off (which I think Android API or Google location framework provides) and ask users whose locations are turned off to turn on first. Also, do you have a privacy policy or terms? I didn't see one. Something like 'by clicking start, you agree to the following terms yadayadayada'. I'd be s#-#t scared to share my home address and personal details without knowing what my info will be used for. Otherwise the app offers such smooth functionality and exhibits a beautiful interface. Regards, Joseph. On Thursday, May 22, 2014, Timbo Drayson <timwiththebo@gmail.com> wrote:

I also backed out when I was asked for my phone no. without any explanation. In this day in age of premium sms scams I'm wary of dishing out my no. to an app without a reason being provided. Why not use e-mail? On 22 May 2014 12:26, mash lists <mashlists@gmail.com> wrote:

Yeah, that is sad. I too believed it's only for Android. So Timbo should tell us whether he also supports Asha/Symbian phones:) On 23 May 2014 21:31, Okechukwu <okechukwu@gmail.com> wrote:

Joseph, thanks so much for trying the app, apologies that you weren't able to create an address.
We pushed a fix yesterday evening that will hopefully help your problem, can you check that you have the latest version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.okhi.app
If not, it would be great if you could update the app and try again. If you do have the latest, would it be possible to send me your mobile no so that I can call you and try to debug the problem?
Thanks again for your support,
Timbo

Well discovered re the iOS build! We're still waiting (bah, damn App Store approval service) for a tiny but important bug fix with the GPS handling to get pushed live so are not promoting the iOS app just yet. Of course though, bug bearing Skunkers, you're more than welcome to try the iOS build: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/okhi/id868747969?mt=8 - just make sure you have GPS turned on and good satellite reception!
