I knew they will never make it because of their attitude! They think everyone is poor in Africa. When they start talking low cost strategy, they should have asked themselves why MPesa is only popular in Kenya and not other countries with the same geometrics. When they talked porting, I foresaw a failure, when they talked low tariffs, I foresaw failure. Of course I knew they can make it if they changed their attitude towards Kenyans. Thats all that matters. Its not that we use the saved money to buy food, its just that we never really liked their network! No one really went there for good, Kenyans just want a reliable mobile partner - it happens Vodafone affiliates are very good at this game, and Airtel is finding this a tough game of chess. I hope they stop talking that stupidly next time they are addressing the world, their rants will affect investors keen to invest in Africa. Thankfully, Vodafone has shown how to do it right - first time. Peter On Mon, Mar 12, 2012 at 8:30 AM, geoffrey gitagia <ggitagia@gmail.com>wrote:

Their Facebook page speaks volumes http://www.facebook.com/AirtelKe

Michael Joseph was right, it seems. Lower call rates does not mean higher call volumes. Worst thing for Airtel is that they have now reduced the total market share in terms of revenue, with the reduced call rates. Safaricom has increased it's rates, Airtel may not necessarily be able to do the same without losing customers. On Mon, Mar 12, 2012 at 10:03 AM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

I think Airtel do not know how to create relationships with their clients at all. The minute they increase the tariff and get to the rates of Safaricom, it will me mass porting of numbers .Worst they will call a press conference to announce an increase in rates( the only Telcom I have seen calling for a press conference to say what no one whats to hear) From: skunkworks-bounces@lists.my.co.ke [mailto:skunkworks-bounces@lists.my.co.ke] On Behalf Of Phares Kariuki Sent: Monday, March 12, 2012 10:16 AM To: Skunkworks Mailing List Subject: Re: [Skunkworks] Low tariff model: Wrong strategy for Kenyans? Not meaning to attack people but I find it rather naive for Airtel to think e only need food to survive (funny that I'm an Airtel customer since it was Kencell & will never change network), and the way some of us have pointed out on this one. Airtel should know that when I save, the money is not for putting food on my table, but for developing other areas too. The way some of us here have pointed out, is indiscriminate, just like Shah's comments. It's important we just look at issues objectively instead of blanketly thinking that everybody is fooliosh to remain on Airtel. I'm there because of various benefits I'm getting. Period.
