How does K24 and Metro TV make money

Guys anyone with any clue how these tv stations make money since i'm figuring they have no adverts but broadcasting equipment is very expensive so is the license i guess. Second thing do you think with fibre coming online radio may catch on in kenya? how does one make money through them?

K24 do have ads and special sponsored topical features (e.g. Women's feature sponsored by Equity Bank). I guess Metro were not making money so they were sold off to Radio Africa. Radio's make bucketloads of money in ad's. Radio is the primary mode of communication for most who don't have access to the internet... go to any government office, there are radio's allover. Usually, its hard at the beginning to break the advertisement market cause advertising companies look at popularity and how far you can reach the masses... There was this startup radio station and i spent the evening with the presenters; they said that they have aggressive marketing campaigns - [especially in the rural areas] to get product, services and institutions to get an advertising slot with them... They said it was hard to convince [especially the big companies] to run an ad on your station. So i think K24 and the rest have marketers out there hustling - they also have guys looking for sponsors to fund some of the programming. Mabbe we will see the results in 2 or so years.
