I've sat here too long... @erick njenga ... may be you could pass me a script to train my udev .... Even a clever google phrase is welcome Thanks all in advance. *_______________________________________________________________ its ok child, He's heard you *

What are you doing with the modem?

When inserting and removing the cable (USB?), do *dmesg* on cli you will know the tty your modem was installed on - hope i answered the right qn? Wilson. On 16 December 2010 09:14, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

@deis -> sms & net @Thuo, thats the problem, doesnt disp;ay the modem as ttyUSB but as usbdev* but none of them takes any AT . Just as i femonstrated with cat, tried usb_mode switch but the symlink to /dev/modem seemed to fail continually *_______________________________________________________________ its ok child, He's heard you * On Thu, Dec 16, 2010 at 2:08 AM, Thuo Wilson <lixton@gmail.com> wrote:

But the current Linux Kernel and GnomePPP seem to have good support for this modems? or you need software for the cards? https://forge.betavine.net/frs/?group_id=12

@denis The prob I have is, udev recognizes the devices alright, and lsusb gives the correct ID, my woe is that it lists them as usbdev* in /dev (in centos5,) all of which seem to be false identifiers / paths when i try an AT on them or a simple cat /dev/usbdev* this way You cant make use of the modems either for net or sms. Thus I tried the mod_switch, some variants would this way force me to drop mass storage [4 wvdial] and also fail to place the right path as directed in udev.... my q is thus whether thereis a workaround, either to match the dev ID to a knowm path eg /dev/modem without compromising gsm/gprs ..... or this distro iko shida Thanks *_______________________________________________________________ its ok child, He's heard you * On Thu, Dec 16, 2010 at 8:57 AM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

Well, Wvdial uses Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0

Well, Wvdial uses Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0 It would only use /dev/ttyUSB0 if the modem is mapped as ttyUSB0 in the /dev list. it could also be ttyUSB1. ttyS0, *ACM0 but the device itself should be on your dev list, thats the reason for the conf file, Av already gottten rid of Centos, Back to debian tough i'd av prefered centos by far only if I didnt have to spend 8hrs on some 50.udev.rules and still come out twice as mad.... Thanks a lot for your input denis, guess I try it over xmass for sme kick *_______________________________________________________________ its ok child, He's heard you * On Thu, Dec 16, 2010 at 9:26 AM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:
