First of all, this operation should only be carried out by members in the sudoers list; And old peeps should be gotten rid of, assuming /dev/earth is a kind of stack structure... So here's my suggestion: sudo tail /dev/earth > /dev/null Above operation may be repeated until /dev/earth has enough space to bring land prices down :-) Me. 2009/5/4 Tony Likhanga <tlikhanga@gmail.com>

If the capacity (or state thereof) of /dev/earth is changing, then we need: tail -F /dev/earth > /dev/null (remember the log of the state keeps being rotated every 24hours?) -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "Clothes make the man. sudo tail /dev/earth > /dev/null would clear the earth of the youngest dude/ettes first! your (good) intention however, is to clear the earth of the oldest (in keeping with the "first-in-first-out" principle) "until every remaining person can afford some decent acreage of arable land". ama? Interesting paradox: If everyone has 2 parents, and each parent has 2 parents, then everone has 4 grandparents - and by extension, 8 great-grandparents, 16 great-great-grandparents, 32 great-great-great-grandparents, - and if one 'generation' is 30 years, that means that only 300 years ago, everyone had 2^10 ancestors (1024) - so ***why wasn't the population 300 years ago 6 TRILLION*** (or mebbe /srv/god has already implemented /dev/null??) @Kariuki, @steve - Hmmm.... - disease causes death, time causes death - 'in the midst of life, we are in death' - hence my 'generation' estimate of 30 years. The 'how' of it is irrelevant ;) If we allow for concurrent generations (which is normally the case - at least three) then the total should be 2^10 + 2^9 + 2^8 - so I think I was being conservative. @Brian - perhaps I was not precise in my wording, but your great-great-grandfather was born from the union of one lucky sperm, with one egg from one of his father's many wives ;) - everybody is the child of one biological father, and one biological mother - so your polygamous spanner, thrown into the procreational works is irrelevant ;) @Ken - AHHHHH!!! - give that man a coconut! *there's* the flaw in the reasoning!!! (but now you've spoiled the fun! ;) ) @Moto... - Binary existed since time immemorial - waaay before humans walked this earth. It took about 4 billion years (or 6000, if you believe certain theological arguments ;) ) until the French had to spoil everything with their stupid 'decimal' system! :D Tune in next time for more argumentative paradoxical rumination.... -- Tony

When I was a lad the prize for getting something right was a biscuit if you were very good a biscuit with milk. Or perhaps a banana. If it was Christmas you'd get sweet potatoes. But we were never offered coconuts! Tony ask another questions so I can get a coconut! -- Pamoja e:daudi.were@gmail.com skype: d.were

cp /dev/null /dev/earth
Simple, right? It becomes empty in a split second:) Perhaps you need chflags noschg /dev/earth first, as it might be
having
the
immutable bit set?
