First of all, this operation should only be carried out by members in the sudoers list;
And old peeps should be gotten rid of, assuming /dev/earth is a kind of stack structure... So here's my suggestion:

sudo tail /dev/earth > /dev/null

Above operation may be repeated until /dev/earth has enough space to bring land prices down :-)
