So today I received yet another annoying text message from Airtel. But this one was different. "Things in Airtel HQ must be getting bad and it seems that the have resorted to stealing from its customers in broad daylight at any cost " "Dear Lucky customer you will now enjoy a 7 day trial of Ziki Tunes and then at 15kshs a month. Song chgs: 5 Ksh/mnth. To deactivate send STOP to 155. For more songs call *155 " "So i sent stop to 155 and was charged 1bob." Of which I have not yet received a confirmation to the deactivation of this service, that I did not even ask for in the first place. If i send another text i will loose another 1 bob..If i do nothing i will loose 15 ksh , unless i call those guys at customer care, but i did not ask for this in the first place. Is this even legal?.. "I did not subscribe to this..i don’t even like Ziki tunes or want it".. I just want to be able to make and receive phone calls, plain and simple" looks like airtel just robbed me of 1ksh. My question is that do we have a framework either through CCK or any other government regulatory bodies to deal with such rogue telecom companies practices.. Thanks vincent

Had this too, very annoying especially if you had blocked spam msg from them only to realize that you have been 'lucky' and you are paying 20bob after 7 days! *_______________________________________________________________ We must Keep on, * On Tue, Mar 27, 2012 at 9:50 AM, Vincent Wayodi <wayodi@gmail.com> wrote:

When Airtel switched on their 3G, there were a number of issues that happened and a lot of people complained about the service at the time. During the whole episode, Airtel: 1. Charged me pay-as-you-go-rate for data access even though I had 96mb left in my data bundle. 2. Eventually stole my 96mb and left me with nothing. If things are so bad, why oh why do you insist on being there:-). Port out, that's why number portability was put in place. As a consumer the best best vote is your wallet. @John, allow me to disagree. When someone does something wrong, they need to know they have done something wrong. Now, if you shut up and "ship out", that someone will continue doing the wrong thing to other people. And i think this is what is meant in the phrase, *evil prospers when good people do nothing*.
I too received this "lucky" subscription to Ziki, i've preserved that sms to date. I resolved it by calling customer care several times (like 10 times in one hour), being very angry and only short of calling them idiotic morons. There must be legal ways of lodging a complaint about this.

Hello, If you are on twitter, handle your business on public TL (Not DM) and they will sort you out quick fast and in a hurry, and you wont get treated like a retard the way their Customer Service people tend to do sometimes. For instance, On Saturday 11pm, my bundles ran out....suspicously they were also experiencing some trouble with their USSD, so no top up and no net for me :( have anaa phone on Safaricom, logged on to twitter and got sorted :) [they hadn't fixed the USSD problem so on request (after I had loaded my account) they purchased my desired bundles ] Social Media power hehe! @Airtel_KE Sad that you have to threaten them with a bad rep to get them to work, but if it (Social Media) works, don't fix it. That is all. On Tue, Mar 27, 2012 at 10:30 AM, Peter Karunyu <pkarunyu@gmail.com> wrote:

I resorted to leaving them a "nasty anti-PR message" on their Facebook wall and in less than 30 minutes, someone called KM has unsubscribed me from this service... But it’s a shame that I had to resort to using guerilla warfare in order to get my voice heard.

@vincent, Atleast some of us know where to hang 'their' dirty linens to get sorted. But I bet they have subscribed my parents and Old uncles to the ZIKI thing and others that they may do forced subscription based on location.(Talk of location based services) This is what I would refer to as wanton evil. Most of their ivr/ and call ads are on my reject list. All I would do is dare them to keep on with these nasty habits and drive some of us to the wall and we find out that we cannot breath and old as it is 'we will brighten up or carry placards'. I now suggest to them to introduce ads in the middle of a call, charge every topup some KES 0.05. And re-write their rules on what 'free' means. *_______________________________________________________________ We must Keep on, * On Tue, Mar 27, 2012 at 12:56 PM, @dutchezjuma <dutchez8@gmail.com> wrote:

So today I received yet another annoying text message from Airtel. But this one was different. "Things in Airtel HQ must be getting bad and it seems that the have resorted to stealing from its customers in broad daylight at any cost "
"Dear Lucky customer you will now enjoy a 7 day trial of Ziki Tunes and then at 15kshs a month. Song chgs: 5 Ksh/mnth. To deactivate send STOP to 155. For more songs call *155 "
"So i sent stop to 155 and was charged 1bob."
Of which I have not yet received a confirmation to the deactivation of this service, that I did not even ask for in the first place.
Thanks
vincent

Lol ...I heard that Safaricom are even worse. Either way you go, no matter where you run, One way or another you will eventually be screwed by a telecom company in Kenya .The best option in my opinion is to have as minim credit as possible at any one time, and only top up when you want to use it by small amounts, that way you can limit the damage.
