This comes from a highly unreliable and undependable source but has nuggets of truth. Apparently Bob has instituted changes at Queen bee after getting a dossier from KACC on Chinese "brown envelop" activity at their highest ranks. It's apparent very few of the politburo can claim to be above reproach and instead of a public flogging he's opted for a more tactical and methodical surgery. The result of who goes and who stays will surprise all and sundry ... next 7 days will be critical keep watching the news. It also gives him a chance to assert his own management team and determine agenda. Who said Bobby is a place holder? I love corporate politics. David, I take cognizance of your opening disclaimer, but I'd still love to wonder why KACC did not just take the bulls by the horn? The Chinese are known (reputed) for their "brown envelop" culture yes, but if KACC can do this, then we are not fighting corruption! Word also has it that the Chinese are so much involved in projects within the Kenyan govt systems, courtesy of "brown envelops" changing hands at the highest level. I dont think the shake-up is about the Chinese connection,it is a common corporate practice. It happened at EABL as well. It is called the 7s (Strategy,Structure,System,Staff,Skills,Style and Shared Values). Every corporate will come with is new set of the 7s. Mr.Bob has his *strategy* so he has to get a *structure* which will support the strategy.Unfortunately that structure will affect the *staff* because the structure has defined *skill* set required to perform.Lastly you need new people to get new management *style.* On Mon, Mar 14, 2011 at 11:42 AM, Joe Maina <maina307@gmail.com> wrote:

If Bob has to perform, then he has to let go of the top management (especially) with stiff competition and harder times ahead, he needs guys who appreciate cost cutting and strategy that keeps the company competitive. The management there now were employed when sf started and they have the "monopoly" mindset and that is why they still run back to govt when competition gets stiff. Was also wondering why fix it if aint broken, until i saw the list of top management team. It is more a replica of former Celtel Management team. Personally, having worked with them then, they are very qualified and up to the task. But there is a problem assembling almost man-to-man your competotor employees.
From a strategic point of view, this brings the former "shared values". Which explains why when Airtel reduced the prices recently, instead of them coming up with counter offers for the customers, they started complaining about sustainability, shared holders and the like. This was unlike safcon that we all knew
It was more like Kencell/Celtel/Zain during those days when they refused to do per second billing sighting sustainability. Talk of poaching employees plus the "shared values". They come with their former employer values, changes your values and the ball is reversed. Bob is on the right track. Otherwise safcom will be a lot of trouble soon. my 2 cents ________________________________ From: Okechukwu <okechukwu@gmail.com> To: Skunkworks Mailing List <skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> Sent: Mon, March 14, 2011 3:30:58 PM Subject: Re: [Skunkworks] Queen bee shake-up: the Chinese connection Thought so too - if it ain't broke, don't fix it - so if its being fixed, it must have broken ./Ok3ch On Mon, Mar 14, 2011 at 3:22 PM, David Kiania | Asentric Consulting Ltd <kianiadee@gmail.com> wrote:

I take cognizance of your opening disclaimer, but I'd still love to wonder why KACC did not just take the bulls by the horn?
The Chinese are known (reputed) for their "brown envelop" culture yes, but if KACC can do this, then we are not fighting corruption! Word also has it that the Chinese are so much involved in projects within the Kenyan govt systems, courtesy of "brown envelops" changing hands at the highest level. KACC must be having all the knowledge.

When Bob Collymore says that he'll get CTO from Voda he's not attesting to our incompetence as Phares is insunuating. Rather he's saying he cant trust anyone from within. This is a serious blow to us as professionals in Tech, it's not our skill but out integrity and character that we have to biuld. Competence and Character are not mutually exclusive. Mr.Bob has his *strategy* so he has to get a *structure* which will support the strategy.Unfortunately that structure will affect the *staff*because the structure has defined *skill* set required to perform.Lastly you need new people to get new management *style.*

I love corporate politics.
David,
I take cognizance of your opening disclaimer, but I'd still love to wonder why KACC did not just take the bulls by the horn?
The Chinese are known (reputed) for their "brown envelop" culture yes, but if KACC can do this, then we are not fighting corruption! Word also has it that the Chinese are so much involved in projects within the Kenyan govt systems, courtesy of "brown envelops" changing hands at the highest level. KACC must be having all the knowledge.
