I don't think you need to format or do other extreme tasks to install VS (or any other software). Most likely your system doesn't meet the Software Requirements, thus the installation error. Hallo,On your registry sometimes some keys are left behind my need google how to clean up your registry for a visual studio reinstallation. On windows you can use something for like revo uninstaller to uninstall stuff to clean up stuff in the registry. Also it will crush if you dont do a full install. hi again,in my case, i am simply trying to deploy an application which has .NET 3.5 as a prerequisite. so when i try to install the application, it throws an error message when attempting to install .NET 3.5 and inevitably the process rolls back. It also fails to install 3.5 when you run the .NET installer on its own (dotnetfx35 that can be downloaded from the Microsoft website). Keep in mind that i did not need to install visual studio 2008, i was simply deploying an application. To be sure there was nothing wrong with my Setup & deployment package and out of good measure, i tried to run the installation of visual studio,simply to see what would happen. My thinking was this was another way to get the .NET 3.5 that was needed in the beginning to get my application up and running. Anyway, visual studio also failed to install. cool. will update the windows installer to 4.5 ( that should be the latest?) the target machine currently runs 3.1. although i have managed to install .NET 3.5 SP1 on several machines running windows installer 3.1. will definitely give this a try and let you all know the results.
