Very true!! I have been using this method since it was unveiled. When the paper bill arrives, I always note the M-Pesa transaction code that I got on the paper, just in case someone wants to blame me:-) And now they say you can register to receive your bills electronically by sending *R*account_number*#*ID_number to register@kplc.co.ke. Why them people need ID Number, I don't know but I registered today and they sent me a confirmation, which had my correct account details. Let's see how it goes. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

If you have a Standard Chartered bank account you can pay at the ATM. Take your bill and ID to your nearest SC branch to register the bill details on your account. After a couple of days it shows up under the "Bill Payment" option on the ATM. Saves you having to withdraw money, looking for an MPesa outlet to add funds to your MPesa account etc. And SC do not charge at all so you pay no transaction fees as far as I know. Bill Payment is perhaps the only thing that SC have got on point these days. -- Pamoja e:daudi.were@gmail.com <e%3Adaudi.were@gmail.com> skype: d.were

As far as I can tell, Ruth & Joram are at cross-purpose talk. Correct me if I'm wrong. @Ruth: You are referring to direct MPESA top-ups from SC accounts. I doubt if this is implemented yet. @Joram: You are referring to direct payment of KPLC bills from SC accounts. The convenience you cited was to illustrate how you don't need to involve MPESA transactions. I guess Ruth interpreted the convenience as being able to directly top-up your MPESA account. Tony.

You can directly top up you mPESA account if you are using KCBConnect. I am not sure of Standard Chartered, but as far as I know, you can not do it with mPESA but I think it is possible with ZAP and StanChart.

ZAP would sort you out if you have an account with SCB.
On another note, I've noted my bill has shot from slightly above 500 shillings (February 2010) to Shs.11, 600 (March 2010) and this is really worrying as I have not added any equipment or gadget that would warrant high cost of electricity. Even the Security light is only switched on occasionally. Anybody who has noticed such a high power bill?

“When you are busy making excuses, you are not making money, making friends, or making the world a better place. Every loser out there has an excuse as to why they’re not a winner – but at the end of the day, they’re still a loser with an excuse.” -Tana Goertz _______________________________________________ Skunkworks mailing list Skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks ------------ Skunkworks Server donations spreadsheet http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AopdHkqSqKL-dHlQVTMxU1VBdU1BSWJxdy1f... ------------ Skunkworks Rules http://my.co.ke/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=94 ------------ Other services @ http://my.co.ke

I'll lodge a formal complaint with KPLC and not allow the metre reader into my compound or even those guys who come to disconnect power. Maybe I need to invest in alternative source of power such as solar or biogas as I wait for someone to hear my cries. Kama mpango wa candle utafanya then be it.

Good luck with that.....

That's against the law, IIRC. BR, S -- Sent from my socks®

Solomon, It is Likely Possible that 1) There has been no meter reading being done. 2) When you have been paying 500 it was actually estimated consumption 3) 11,600 was calculated after getting the actual meter reading regards Patrick

@Steve, if it is illegal not to allow the metre reader into the compound, then it is also illegal for KPLC to illegal increase my bill since there is nothing that warrants that action. @Patrick, the failure by the metre reader to come and read the metre is not my cause. He's (most, if not all, are men) paid to do that. So KPLC should sanction him and not pass the buck to the consumer.
