Hi Skunkers, I need help unlocking an iphone 4S Version 5.1(9b179) Model: Md277ll Modem Firmware: 2.1.0 Carrier: Verizon 12.0 Am stuck up with a verizon sim card that ain't helping me around. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Can't be unlocked. And you say it is on Verizon, so I assume it is a CDMA version? While the iPhone 4S is a world phone supporting both GSM and CDMA, Verizon usually locks the GSM so that it can't be used on rival networks. Right now there is no known method of unlocking iPhone 4S.

Warning: This might not be the answer you are looking for. Some weeks ago I had the same predicament with a 3Gs locked on a UK network. I looked for someone to do it and they all said it was not possible. Then I got one guy who was going to do it but the kind of money he was charging was enough to get another decent phone e.g an Android. So I gave up and decided to tackle the problem like a techie would...on my own. Downloaded some files of the internet to be used for unlocking and then I took the risk. My reasoning was simple, if I can't use the phone on Kenyan networks then it was no longer useful to me and I could bear the price of ruining it without guilt in my heart. 2 hours later I put a Safaricom sim inside and I was welcomed by full bars! Moral of the story....take the risk on your own...or forget about it all together. :) On 6 June 2012 17:28, Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com> wrote:

@Moses, Most iPhone 3GS are unlockable unless there were made quite recently. So, maybe your 3GS was unlockable from the beginning and the first person you consulted didn't know what to do or was unwilling, while the second person was trying to take advantage of you. @Evans, All iPhone 4Ss are both CDMA and GSM. technically, there is no difference between a Verizon, AT&T or even the factory unlocked one. What Apple does it to lock for each carrier as they order, and only them can unlock. It is similar practice used by al contract phone vendors. My advice is that if you want to get an iPhone 4S, get a factory unlocked one. Currently, you will not be able to unlock a 4S or even the later model 4.

@philip, is that to say that my 4S on contract with Orange KE is locked to GSM and should there be a tme i can unlock it ill unleash the cdma functionality? I deliberately asked for a CDMA one and was told, "hizo haziko" On Wed, Jun 6, 2012 at 5:46 PM, Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com> wrote:

@Collins, While the phone may have CDMA chip, I guess it can not be activated on most carriers as they restrict this to their own specific RUIM. With CDMA, the subscriber information is contained in the phone itself, so it will be add to use the iPhone on any other CDMA network. I am sure they it can work if the network allowed the phone with to pair with the network, but most carriers will not do it. So, the CDMA part of your Orange iPhone 4S is almost useless, unless the CDMA network allows it to work. So normally the official CDMA carriers will have the identity modules directly build-in to their iPhone order by Apple.

@evans I'm seeing quite a bit of chatter about the use of SAM once you have jailbroken the 4S. See the below: http://gizmodo.com/5904166/how-to-unlock-the-iphone-4s-right-now If you are on iOS 5.1 jailbreaking is easy using Absinthe. What I can't quite speak for is the unlocking part via SAM. The SAM unlock procedure was disabled by Apple. But those who managed to unlock when it was working and saved their unlock tickets and continue to unlock forever. But the SAM unlock system is tied to a specific SIM card, so you can only use that SIM card that has been unlocked with SAM.
