Re: [Skunkworks] Laptop locked to Safaricom modem

It's a Compaq Mini 110c-1100 Actually there are no modem drivers installed, in Device Manager, there is no modem, not even one with the warning mark beside it. I tried installing one but it didn't appear anywhere, setup just ran and then nothing :-( -- Shiro Njagi The idea is to write it so that people hear it and it slides through the brain and goes straight to the heart. ~~Maya Angelou~~

@ Shiro, Have you tried using a different USB port from the one the Safcom modem was using? (Assumption: I am assuming you did but i gotta ask:-)) You can go to device manager USB controllers and see if Huawei is still listed there and unisnstall it. While at the same place, you can also unistall and reinstall the USB drivers. Don't worry. The generic ones come with windows so you should be able to reinstall without the CD. Yes John, I tried all the USB ports. I didn't try uninstalling the drivers for USB though, I will try and let you know how it goes. Thanks -- Shiro Njagi The idea is to write it so that people hear it and it slides through the brain and goes straight to the heart. ~~Maya Angelou~~

Test using another modem. If other modem works then ur configurations r not correct. On Fri, Sep 23, 2011 at 8:43 AM, Shiro Njagi <sheeroh@gmail.com> wrote:

I once had such a nightmare with an Orange modem, but it ultimately worked. I think I deleted almost all USB devices under Hardware, rebooted, connected the modem and the autorun thing checked in. Modem installed and worked. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ I can't hear you -- I'm using the scrambler. Shiro, What happens is that the safaricom installation was initial and then the orange installation tried to overwrite some files and was unable. As a result, the orange installation was deemed incomplete. To Do: 1. uninstall safaricom 2. unistall orange 3. shut down the computer 4. restart the computer 5. install orange [assuming thats what you want to use] As you can see from the above, orange will not work on a previously safaricom setup computer. db On 24 September 2011 20:03, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:
