Have you tried using a different USB port from the one the Safcom modem was using? (Assumption: I am assuming you did but i gotta ask:-))
 
You can go to device manager USB controllers and see if Huawei is still listed there and unisnstall it.
While at the same place, you can also unistall and reinstall the USB drivers. Don't worry. The generic ones come with windows so you should be able to reinstall without the CD.

Actually there are no modem drivers installed, in Device Manager, there is no modem, not even one with the warning mark beside it. I tried installing one but it didn't appear anywhere, setup just ran and then nothing :-(
