@wash I am in total agreement! However, let us look at the details, shall we?Safaricom advertises "Unlimited Internet",but they cap it at 512 Kbps.Since this is a 'shared' connection, you will never come anywhere close to 512Kbps,the best I've had is 47Kbps.Do you see that, a tenth of the advertised service! For the last few days, the connection keeps going off atleast once every two hours and it stays like that for at least 15 minutes to 2 hours! If you call customer care, they simply tell you that they are not experiencing any problem. But why would I call them if there was no problem in the first place,I do not like them that much!At some point they seemed to have increase the threshold to 1Mbps because I could now get 98Kbps.In short,it is not something that they have not control over! :) On 22 February 2012 12:29, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:

I don't find it strange when a setup like Safaricom experiences a technical problem. Tell me of the best techie you know who has never had any mishap with the equipment assigned to them? They don't run equipment from God!

Two things: 1. They should avail information on what the volume threshold is so we can regulate ourselves. 2. One Mbps is a more 'respectful' speed limit I find 512 (safaricom) and 256 (orange) just plain disrespectful. David On Wed, Feb 22, 2012 at 12:38 PM, Moses Muya <mouzmuyer@gmail.com> wrote:

I think the capping is done intelligently then, factoring usage and (wait for it... ) congestion. While in Kilifi,I get 2.8kb eazy, that by all means is more than 512kb but quite agreeable to the 512kB, yet again trying the same in Nairobi and Kericho offers quite a different experience... So im inclined to believe that the caps are soft or hard caps depending on where you are... I also suspect they keep a "notorious abusers" list and watch your cumulative traffic over time, i know someone that used to enjoy these unlimited speeds untill his daily torrent size hit about 10Gigs (daily or weekly, not sure). he was quickly capped to 512kb.....
