Hello skunks. Could you guys advise on a basic mail application that that I could run for between 3 and 5 users on the linux platform... I am thinking that my favorite deployment (Zimbra) would be an overkill for such few accounts with minimal activity expected. Regards, Mugo

Hi Mugo, What features do you want on it? On Tue, Nov 22, 2011 at 6:32 PM, m mugo <mugo2of3@gmail.com> wrote:

why don't you try postfix and install squirrelmail. It's easy, light, scalable n there's a lot of documentation available online. If you install webmin, managing the setup becomes a walk in the park. The pro's is that you are in total control of the setup. Cheers. On 11/23/11, m mugo <mugo2of3@gmail.com> wrote:

Could you guys advise on a basic mail application that that I could run for between 3 and 5 users on the linux platform...
I am thinking that my favorite deployment (Zimbra) would be an overkill for such few accounts with minimal activity expected.

@m a trick I learned recently: if you install syslog-ng on your server, you can use multitail -f /path/to/log/dir to keep track of your logs and you can even spot a problem in good time and nip it in the bud. Also, check out webmin....its very handy Cheers On Fri, Nov 25, 2011 at 12:01 PM, Eva Kimathi <evakimathi@gmail.com> wrote:

@Eva, That which you discovered with syslog-NG is one thing you can actually do with the good old syslog, by sending the logs of the apps to console. "man syslog" (sorry, this "man" command needs to be renamed so as to be more gender-friendly). On Fri, Nov 25, 2011 at 12:07, Eva Kimathi <evakimathi@gmail.com> wrote:
@m a trick I learned recently: if you install syslog-ng on your server, you can use multitail -f /path/to/log/dir to keep track of your logs and you can even spot a problem in good time and nip it in the bud.
Also, check out webmin....its very handy

Thanks for your suggestions.
Will check out the suggested solutions above.
Google apps wont do it for me as I already have an under-utilised server and I'm kinda used to doing my own administration.
@ Mr. X and Mr. Y, Evolution, Thunderbird are mail clients just like Outlook, definitely I wasn't looking for those but thanks for the contribution anyway.

ola @Wash. I agree with you on the dydlog thing, and have been using it for some time now. problem is that it mysteriously stopped logging activity on mail and there wasn't a clear reason why. I stumbled upon syslog-ng during a search for a solution for my empty logs. So far, so good :-) On 11/27/11, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:
