To confirm Imelda's statement, I saw that on a documentary on TV sometime back, where high school students are hired as interns to work in their various branches and have 'first hand' application of the banking sector. Although I'm not sure how that led to a breakdown of services the whole day, well, unless one of the students stepped on a live wire!

There is a time when having a degree was precious, now everyone has one, so its your intelligence and you capacity that takes you where you go. I have NEVER at any one time presented my papers to anyone, I have worked and sat on the same table with and for very high profile people including Tanzania's president Jakaya Kikwete. Lucky You David, But I agree wholly with you and with @jamo. Intelligence is the key. You don't need a degree if you are gifted or smart. And if you have one, you shouldn't settle for less. Either way you should strive to be successful in whatever. As for Equity, Damn!

To confirm Imelda's statement, I saw that on a documentary on TV sometime back, where high school students are hired as interns to work in their various branches and have 'first hand' application of the banking sector.

I agree... I did not mean to say that one shouldnt get a degree, meant to say that shouldnt be the end and it shouldnt measure you. There is a lot more that comes with education than just the papers. @Solomon, didnt 'oil' anyone... just got good referrals and probably I was at the right place at the right time... I have actually mostly been self employed so that maybe one of the reasons why I have never had to present papers and when I got employed, the employer had evidence of my work and they actually needed me. I have NEVER at any one time presented my papers to anyone, I have worked and sat on the same table with and for very high profile people including Tanzania's president Jakaya Kikwete.
I have worked high profile jobs too, including my current one and still, NEVER presented my papers anywhere.

I have actually mostly been self employed so that maybe one of the reasons why I have never had to present papers and when I got employed, the employer had evidence of my work and they actually needed me.

@erick - you're referring to the KCB general purpose debit card. I've used it for a number of online purchases and I've had no problems at all. The card support line is also pretty responsive. I once had a guy deposit cash on that card some months back and the very next minute I was buying something thru paypal. All you need is 1k cash, your ID and one passport photo. The charges are 100 bob a month, and will be ready in 5 working days upon application.

I am a 'member' too and over the last few months Equity's services have been disappointing especially as far as the ATM services and mobile banking are concerned. Most ATM centers in the CBD normally have 50% machines operating. And there is one near the place I live in Kiambu County that has been down for my last 3 visits; I even stopped going there any more to check.
