Hi @Ben I dont know abt u or what the other listers feel but I did not like the way he finished the request "No Charities please". My take here is that in this list are potential employers, hence what is posted here in job seekin shud be more like a cover letter. Thats why you went ahead to ask the guys what he is good @. That being the case the above statement didn'y go well on his cover letter to me and I dont know how many others. You dont want sm1 in your systems who you ask to confirm a client connection but he says his work in wwriting code, you purely understand that. The others are welcome to raise their voices including Njuguna here but thats what I feel as a potential employer or someone who can reffer to someone. A long time ago - I was lucky to read a book called "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" - in my last year of college about 3 years ago. And there was a quote that said - "do not pass up a chance to learn and gain experience for the pursuit of money..." It went on to say that, while you are still young and learning - it is okay to be employed for a while without pay, because 1) you are still finding out what you have to offer 2) you are building what you have to offer - so that when the time comes, you will have alot to tell your next employer, who shall value you based on your now bigger CV... My first two and a half jobs [almost 1 year] - I must say I worked without pay,, its hard, but you get to catch on alot. I am not critisizing, but I always advise guys from college to start somewhere, because times have changed, and this is the only way to penetrate the market - unless you get very lucky [no pun intended for this last statement :-) ] .

well said too steve,my first job too i offered to work without pay , its really frustrating i know at times if you have a bad employer especially but its a stepping stone to bigger things On Thu, Aug 20, 2009 at 1:07 PM, ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com>wrote:

Well said Steve! Did not start off with pay either. Used to tarmac from sales meetings often (after using my own ma3fare to get there). Would often be drenched in sweat - for no pay! When better sales people came in later they got cars to go out. Did not complain. Was amazed to learn / see how they closed corporate deals as I took care of the technical stuff / explanations for them. It builds / shows character if not passion to start off without pay. Do not follow the money, follow your passion. Money will follow sooner or later. Few employers are dim enough to ignore a good worker. Even if they cannot pay you well, good ones become your referees or mentors who build you up. On Thu, Aug 20, 2009 at 1:07 PM, ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com>wrote:

Hi guys, Njuguna, being a fresh school leaver, is seemingly naive in these matters. I think it we would be of more help if we corrected him without criticizing because we also were ignorant at some point in time. I feel it would be more appropriate if we employed a more advisory approach to correcting him, rather than giving him a bashing - like a "I don't like how you sound, so I wouldn't give you a job" attitude. Maybe Njuguna will someday become some "big guy" who will give a job to my similarly ignorant boy someday - or yours. This is my opinion by the way, I hope no one feels like I have stepped on their toes.. and if I did, it's not my intent. Good day, Me. 2009/8/21 Njuguna Waweru <systemz88@gmail.com>

From what guys have contributed here... learn and take them not as negative criticism but positive ones. This will shape you into an even better person.
