Skunks, On the same score. last week I send a message to a friend. I typed the message then inserted the contact from my contacts.There was no chance of error or confusion. But the message went to a different person. Does Gsm networks have the issue of crossed lines. Gate Keeper.

Happened to me last week, while sending commission info to one of our sales people, I inadvertently send the "classifed" info to one of our clients (CEO). They called me, thats how I sensed danger. I mean its so embarrasing for your client to know your sales data thanks to Safaricom. I was forced to "lie". On Wed, Apr 25, 2012 at 10:03 AM, Gate Keeper <mohasq@gmail.com> wrote:

Peter, With such issues how is the privacy of such Telco subscribers ensured. Should CCK have this as one of requirements to be met . In my case the information was personal and private yet a stranger received it. gate Keeper

Without prejudice, I think the number of subscribers QB is handling is becoming a big issue. These days I have to call someone twice - the first call is either a mteja or busy signal. The second call always 100% goes through. Maybe they are testing something to which I warn them - test that system while im asleep, not when everyone reads my sales data because you screwed, nktsue! Interesting...I'm sure most techies run tests, simulations and load tests before unleashing their solutions to production/live service. But I doubt a sensible engineer would dare run tests on prod...I could be wrong. ./bernard On Wed, Apr 25, 2012 at 2:23 PM, Peter Osotsi <peter.osotsi@gmail.com>wrote:

I doubt that Safaricom is to blame for sending the wrong message to someone in your address book - the odds do not add up. What I know is that on smartphones, people usually commit the error of selecting a different contact when composing a message, due to myriad of causes - autosuggestion - screen delay, eg where you type *pet*, it shows Peter, then you type *r * it takes time to bring up Petro, you hit select, and the meesage goes to petro and not to peter

Crosscall/SMS can happen. In CDMA maybe not so much, in gsm definitely. Out of curiosity were you on 3G or just good old 2g when this happened? Around which area? Might as well help them solve the problem as we 'rant'. What I doubt is that it's a test. Sent from my iPad On 25 Apr 2012, at 15:52, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

@Roy
From the two explanations you have given, it is both possible and impossible for this to happen! :) A case of two contradicting explanations. :) In your opinion, what do you reckon is the problem? I'm I looking at a device problem or a network problem? I want to do a factory reset of the device and then see if I can reproduce the error.

Mathematically, I am calculating the odds that Safaricom's network decides to use a contact in your address book, rather than other 17 million contacts, to cross "talk" an SMS. The network must have some very high level of intelligence.

Yep...1/17,000,000 is quite low. If I could relate that to voice calls - the person you get 'cross talked' to is usually someone you have communicated with before. I have also discovered that it occurs for certain sets of numbers. For example , some calls made to Person X will go to Person Y and not Person Z. Then those to Person A go to specific Person B and never Person X. On 25 Apr 2012 22:27, "Dennis Kioko" <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

@Dennis , @Roy I have. After pulling out all my hair in the name of trying to find out what could be the problem, I have reached several conclusions. As for the Airtel crosstalk, it is as real as it gets. As I have explained, some numbers 'crosstalk' to others. There are two specific place that this happens, somewhere in Lang'atta and my (ex)workplace in Karen. Just two places. I have concluded that this is a network problem and I will D.M their customer car on Twitter. As for the Safaricom 'sms crosstalk' - sorry for wasting your time! :) I did not like the native sms app that came with my phone and therefore I proceeded to download another one from Google Play. It was very fine and there was no way to prove it was messing me up! From my research online, it turns out the app I installed is just but a nicely-camouflaged trojan horse! I suspect it was responsible for the mixup where text messages intended for my G.F somehow landed in my (ex)boss'es inbox. It was also responsible for sending random texts to anyone it pleased. Most recently I was woken up in the morning by a person who was asking me to clarify the text I had sent a few minutes before. Problem is, I am not a ninja and there is no way I would have sent a text while sleeping! This is what you would call 'spam text' - very similar to spam mail but very expensive since the network will charge you for any text that is sent out. I have since reset most of the configurations on the phone and things are back to normal. On 25 April 2012 23:42, Roy Michoma <roymichoma@gmail.com> wrote:

In my case I was in Kagundo road( near Charina bar/The junction of the road joining kangundo road and Moi drive) when sending the disputed message. I was using a Samsung phone Model GT-E1085F. After sending the message I got a call from a number asking for clarification on the message I had sent a to him.I requested him to forward the message back to me which he did. It was my message. In the sent folder the message shows that it was sent to the intended recipient. I did not confirm the number in the delivery receipt before deleting it. The phone has changed hands severally but to the best of my knowledge it has the original software from the manufacturer. It has never been upgraded. Gate Keeper.
