Ports issues and server unreachable

Morning Skunkers, Am in a little dilemma here, I would really appreciate a little help in this and in understanding/ fixing my situation. this may not sound more tech but i believe someone can understand it. i need to access my server through my public IP but all i get is a can't establish a connection to the server at 41.206.34....:3030. on my router all the ports are enabled and a port scan shows they are open. when i ping the server i get a reply and no timeouts. this is getting me more confused,i really cant get it. i tried to turn off the firewall and see if i can connect but nothing at all. Am using server 2008 R2 enterprise edition. Secondly i did a port scan using mxtool box and this is the result i got. *Status* *Port* *Name* *Result* *Time (ms)* [image: Description: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/public/images/supertool/icon-red.png] 21 ftp No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 41.206.34…:21 0 [image: Description: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/public/images/supertool/icon-green.png] 22 ssh Success 640 [image: Description: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/public/images/supertool/icon-green.png] 23 telnet Success 608 [image: Description: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/public/images/supertool/icon-red.png] 25 smtp Thread was being aborted. 0 [image: Description: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/public/images/supertool/icon-red.png] 53 dns No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 41.206.34….:53 0 [image: Description: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/public/images/supertool/icon-green.png] 80 http Success 640 [image: Description: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/public/images/supertool/icon-red.png] 110 pop3 Thread was being aborted. 0 [image: Description: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/public/images/supertool/icon-red.png] 143 imap Thread was being aborted. 0 [image: Description: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/public/images/supertool/icon-red.png] 139 netbios Thread was being aborted. 0 [image: Description: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/public/images/supertool/icon-red.png] 389 ldap Thread was being aborted. 0 [image: Description: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/public/images/supertool/icon-green.png] 443 https Success 640 [image: Description: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/public/images/supertool/icon-red.png] 587 msa-outlook Thread was being aborted. 0 [image: Description: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/public/images/supertool/icon-red.png] 1352 lotus notes No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 41.206.34…:1352 0 [image: Description: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/public/images/supertool/icon-red.png] 1433 sql server No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 41.206.34…:1433 0 [image: Description: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/public/images/supertool/icon-red.png] 3306 my sql Thread was being aborted. 0 [image: Description: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/public/images/supertool/icon-red.png] 3389 remote desktop Thread was being aborted. 0 [image: Description: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/public/images/supertool/icon-red.png] 8080 webcache Timeout i need to understand what thread was being aborted means and how i can resolve this. Confirm that you have "port forwarded" 3030 and 8080 to your win 2008 box's IP address and make sure it's not DHCP. You can also specify your win 2k8 box as your DMZ host in the router config..and again make sure its IP is not provided by DHCP. _______________________________________________ *In programming, as in everything else, to be in error is to be reborn.** * _______________________________________________ * * 2012/10/31 wa <wanangu@gmail.com>

Hi, Are they webservices? First - check locally (inside your online server) whether you can access those services. Port 80 looks ok, are you running IIS? If so check whether you have an issue with the IIS configs. You can check your event viewer's security logs for hits. Regards, frank On Wed, Oct 31, 2012 at 2:38 PM, wa <wanangu@gmail.com> wrote:

Am using server 2008 R2 enterprise edition.
Secondly i did a port scan using mxtool box and this is the result i got.

You might get assisted if you told us the type of router you are using. But first, kindly Confirm that the win 2k8 box can access the internets thru the router, or that it can ping the router. Next set the win 2k8 box as DMZ host (hunt for that setting in the router's configs) make sure to save ( and maybe reboot the router) _______________________________________________ *In programming, as in everything else, to be in error is to be reborn.** * _______________________________________________ * * 2012/10/31 wa <wanangu@gmail.com>

To narrow it you said the ports are accessible from the LAN but not via the public IP, secondly the server is on a static NAT. Questions, how many devices between the router and the server and does any do filtering. Also if on a Cisco Router do the command below as you try to reach the port from public and paste output: #sho ip nat transtlations | include 41.206.34 Confirm for me if any route-maps are used or ACLs for that matter. Hi,
Are they webservices? First - check locally (inside your online server) whether you can access those services. Port 80 looks ok, are you running IIS? If so check whether you have an issue with the IIS configs. You can check your event viewer's security logs for hits.

To narrow it you said the ports are accessible from the LAN but not via the public IP, secondly the server is on a static NAT.
Questions, how many devices between the router and the server and does any do filtering.
Also if on a Cisco Router do the command below as you try to reach the port from public and paste output: #sho ip nat transtlations | include 41.206.34
Confirm for me if any route-maps are used or ACLs for that matter.

You might get assisted if you told us the type of router you are using. But first, kindly Confirm that the win 2k8 box can access the internets thru the router, or that it can ping the router.
Next set the win 2k8 box as DMZ host (hunt for that setting in the router's configs) make sure to save ( and maybe reboot the router)
