Hallo Friends A client of mine wants me to critique her website she has designed , i.e the homepage only. The website is www.lukagwajewellers.com . Your contributions will be highly appreciated All remarks are welcome Thanks and good wkd -- Pithon K. IMHO: 1. Favicon for the site missing 2. I would use CloudZoom<http://www.professorcloud.com/mainsite/cloud-zoom.htm>on the two main images so that users can zoom in on the jewellery 3. For the 4 links on the left side (About Us, Enquiries, How to buy, Facebook), I would use some african jewellery as the background image instead of the grey circle 4. For the 7 links hapo chini (Our Profile, Paintings, Earrings etc), I would make the image 'speak' the link i.e. for the earrings link the image would be an earring instead of the current image 3. What will happen if there are more than two products featured on the home page? The space available seems kinda small. On Sat, Dec 4, 2010 at 11:54 AM, pithon kamau <pitkag@gmail.com> wrote:

In addition to contributions by Peter, the following are my observations - Remove the admin links at the bottom, they are simply giving directions to where all administration takes place. - Change the admin folder to another name not associated with admin/administrator, making it slightly hard for anyone to guess where and whether or not the site is static or has a backend. - The main feature [image] background and that of the main body are not aligned assuming they are the same - The extreme left edge of the logo has a grey/brown vertical line [maybe its the design] - company name | telephone | email | copyright company name; I think this is repetition, you could have the company name and copyrights on the extreme right then the contact details to the right or the other way round On Sat, Dec 4, 2010 at 2:00 PM, Peter Karunyu <pkarunyu@gmail.com> wrote:

3. What will happen if there are more than two products featured on the home page? The space available seems kinda small. She can use an image ticker for this, though am not sure if its mobile phone friendly

if you consider the above comments you will have a masterpiece otherwise it is great work On Sat, Dec 4, 2010 at 8:53 PM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

Thoughts based on experience. 1. Although i still use tables, it's for relatively un-acceptably stubborn clients who "Know" a bit about Web Development and insist that it's been that way always. So, Seeing as how you've already got a CSS input, change all tables to CSS. 2. The design is fairly simple but your aesthetic value is diminished by usability. 3. The links that identify navigation ( Our Profile ) etc. Should have hyperlinks attached to the images, ease of nav. 4. Admin references, repeated addresses, all can go. It's a great site, needs some more.. experience and usability up's. Get in touch with me on rahim@megapixels.co.ke if you need to get a consultant who can help improve site usability and user experience. WatchthewebMAN!. 1/ Bad choice of domain name... Long and hard to write. Futhermore, it is restricted your market => what if she want to sell clothes (oups, she is already painting) Thus lukagwa.com with subfolder should be favored - lukagwa.com/painting/... or lukagwa.com/jewellery/... 2/ Avoir tables as said above... Go full CSS 3/ Your site is throwing 22 errors using HTML validator - http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lukagwajewellers.com%2F&c... fix them 4/ No SEO friendly... add alt and title with pertinent keywords 5/ Shopping area = Total fail = you have two different websites. Either place the shoppingcart in your root domain and forget the main site or either try to integrate shopping kazba within main website *(should be easy, few cookies and some raw data text, plenty of example online). 6/ Images are small... try to fit text from right side to the left side (below button) and place larger images on right side 7/ If you are planning to have a share FB button, use the FB Open Graph meta tag, it helps ! 8/ Then, no price !!! Please, tell the designer that some people are tired of that no price policy. This is not a fish market !! Beware - No prices = means no sales ! No time to argue online, people want to see prices and compare Hope it helps... me it is a below average website but we all started there, isn't it ?? So continue to read books and documentation about CSS/HTML, some server-script code and then try to improve design. On 4 December 2010 23:04, David Njuguna <dnjuguna@gmail.com> wrote:
