Good people, I installed Windows 7 replacing Vista, and I'm not able to access CD or DVD through the ROM. I remember after installing the current OS, I watched a movie on my laptop, but all of a sudden, I can't find drive E: (which was my DVD drive). I have done a trouble shoot, run device manager and I seem to have been lost in the maze. Device manager shows the CD ROM but with a yellow tab on the left. I can't roll back the drive (the tab is blocked) but I can update and check the device status which states:* Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39). *I have googled, searched on Microsoft website for help, but still I find myself in the deepest part of the maze. Restoring the system to an earlier point, does not help me either. I installed the same on a PC and it's working well. The DVD and CD are playing very well. Any one out there with a solution? Windows 7 is very stable, I have not noticed any issue since I started using it about 4 months ago. If you were able to use the drive upon upgrade, try system restore to that earlier time. Did you have the machine drivers or you downloaded??
@ Alvin, I do have the machine drivers which I had on the recovery CD provided with the machine, and the downloaded ones. Both of them refused to work even after numerous restarts after installing the drivers.

@ Alvin, I do have the machine drivers which I had on the recovery CD provided with the machine, and the downloaded ones. Both of them refused to work even after numerous restarts after installing the drivers.

Simon the problem with windows drivers is that the drivers for Vista biz, windows pro 7 , xp-pro are all different......
I think I had accidentally tampered with some thing in the system that it caused the CD/DVD drivers corrupt or missing. I'm still figuring out how and what I really did, because after installing Windows 7, I watched a movie on the system, without any hitches. Later, as I was familiarizing myself with the OS, I did something sending the CD/DVD drivers kaput! However, after re-installing Windows 7, the drivers were also installed in the process and it is working out fine. I'm working cautiously!

Simon the problem with windows drivers is that the drivers for Vista biz, windows pro 7 , xp-pro are all different......
I think I had accidentally tampered with some thing in the system that it caused the CD/DVD drivers corrupt or missing. I'm still figuring out how and what I really did, because after installing Windows 7, I watched a movie on the system, without any hitches. Later, as I was familiarizing myself with the OS, I did something sending the CD/DVD drivers kaput! However, after re-installing Windows 7, the drivers were also installed in the process and it is working out fine. I'm working cautiously!

@ Alvin, I do have the machine drivers which I had on the recovery CD provided with the machine, and the downloaded ones. Both of them refused to work even after numerous restarts after installing the drivers.
